Nvidia: New card for £400 - Options?

Review of the card, the default settings for the fans seem to be aggressive and it appears to be worth using the Zotac software to tune the fans, which appears easy to do. I have the same on an MSI card. It is the loudest card I have ever heard at default settings but by tuning the fan it became very quite.
The FE is nicer though if it comes back in stock, only downside is it has shorter warranty
No man, it's proper poop

Just wait a couple of months and pick up a used card in the inevitable fire sale when rtx 4000 is announced, you'll probably be able to get a 3080/ti for your £400.
Don't want used in the mining era as you've no idea how hard it was ridden. My fear of holding out too long is I'll end up with the worst cards to pick from. Would still like a 'good' model for my money. My 970 was the OCUK 'Reference' version which has been bullet-proof.

I'd still say wait a bit. Prices are coming down rapidly (albeit resellers will try to keep the prices bolstered for as long as possible). nV and to a lessor extent AMD have a real problem on their hands with current stock as they have too much supply and demand has been plummeting. You should be able to pick up a 3060 or 6700 for £400 soon (and/or with a game bundle).

Anyone who spends £400-£500 on a gpu today, which is not at least RTX3090 level performance is a total nutter and will feel like a total chump in a few months, especially if you plan on using the card for 3-5 years....it would be insanity.

We are likely going to see Nvidia announce their new line up for 4000 series at the end of this month, which at a minimum is going to tank prices further , just be patient and wait, or don‘t it’s your money...

I've also been sorely tempted to upgrade recently, but I'm fighting that temptation. I think it's worth waiting a while longer. And I absolutely wouldn't touch the used market even with someone else's money right now.

^They'll only tank to a degree in the new market. Any fantasy about pricing going through the floor is just that - fantasy. As Wucked said, touching the used market is an absolute mug's game unless you know the seller and knew the card wasn't rode like a seaside pony.

3090 for £500 exists only in the mind of a madman. Never happening. Maybe £750 next year.

And if 4070 costs £500, as it should unless they hike the tiers again, with 3090 performance?

This is basically what happened last time. 2080Ti second hand at £500, granted those people got shafted because crypto boomed and/or scalpers swooped in on the demand.

Scalpers get them at launch so you can have them for 3x the price or live on Discord hoping for a bite. Other than that you can see if one pops up 6-12 months later. Terrible era to be in.

with how cost of living is and when the new cards are launching and price of energy they might not get scalped also sales might not be as good as nvidia think they will be. many people going to be thinking about luxury items. the pricing is going to have to be good on them.

I'm finding on members market here people are struggling to sell. Lot's of cheap 3 series cards on facebook market place, 3090s going for the same price as 3080tis on ebay and loads of people putting in fake bids and then relisting their cards. Second hand market looks like a mess right now, I don't see it getting any better next week. In fact, once the new series is officially announced the general public will be aware, which will result in even less sales for the 3 series.

 Well, the fire sales on new cards never happened in my range! Just gave up and got a 3060Ti FE direct from the mountains they are no doubt sitting on and dripping out. Was watching for the 3070 FE to show, but it seems forever EOL. Ti variant is a rip-off against it. Should keep me going on 1440p for a good few years. Decided to move after seeing NV shenanigans about 3060 Ti's with tweaked memory as they'll probably find some way to 'relaunch' it at £399.

3060Ti FE at £369 was the best deal for this gen and you did well to get one. Don't be so ungrateful!

Been running a 3.5GB card for 8 years. I'll manage at 1440p/60fps. :p Very casual PC gamer and run a lot of older titles mostly. Only new game I ran this year was Elden Ring and even on the 970 with sensible (for the card) settings, I was getitng 45-50 fps outdoors and close to 60fps indoors so not bad for a janky game like that. Regarding 3070 FE as the poster above mentioned, was waiting for one, but they're never in. Only the bogus overpriced TI variant. Not worth the extra outlay. I'm sure I can OC the 3060 Ti to close to 3070~ Even 3 years will be fine out of it. Just needed something after 8 long years of GTX 970. :o
