Nvidia new = old possible reason?

Could Nvidia releasing their old tech as new was their "scared" in a way that if they mess with the 8 series core to much it could all go wrong, so would rather do small changes here, and there rather than release brand new cards and lose their performance. so release this as a stop gap, then go back to the drawing bard and start again

In a similar way to athlon 64 being a hugh leap forward taking the crown from Intel. It then being tweeked and released as phenom, and we all know how (un)succesful that has been against C2D

just an idea to it, what do you guys and gals think?

I think you read too much conspiricy novels.

They re-released the 8 series as 9 purely to milk as much as possbile considering the huge development cost in the first place.

All rumours and indicators suggest their new generation GPUs are almost ready and will be with us sooner than we think.

simple answer, proberbly industrial espionage, and im not joking, im being serious, on paper you can see why the 3870 isn't as fast as the 8800 series, at the moment NVIDIA just have the better technology, they'll have something at the end of the design pipeline waiting to take on whatever ATI has up there sleaves, they've had more than enough time to come up with a monster GPU. also why would you release a new architecture when your old one is still hands down beating the competitions offering, all there doing is making die shrinks, which leads to less heat and faster clock speeds, NVIDIA are interested in making money and there doing it, and doing it well nobody can complain about that

I think ATI have more advanced Antialiasing tech with it being done on the shaders meaning it's more flexible, but nvidia have the speed crown.

ATI's AA is nothing special atm... it's still driver/code dependant...

that's one thing i noticed on my 8800GT - i can actually run 2x AA and take the 10 fps hit: with my Radeon i didn't even bother

all AA is going to be code dependant eventually, thats what things are moving towards
Hardware AA is a dying tech
