Nvidia news direct from Jen-Hsun Huang!

Lets not turn this thread into another discussion about Charlie Demerjian. There are plenty of other threads on him. I should never have mentioned his name...

My point is; it's hard to comment sensibly on a rumour that cannot be proven one way or another (the "GT212 was cancelled because it couldn't work on 40nm"), especially if the source has a well known agenda. There are many reasons why GT212 could have been shelved.

edit: I just did a quick search for "GT212" and found this old article. It starts with:

The frustration felt by Nvidia fanbois is quite obvious, even the soothing words of their mother calling from the top of the basement stairs won't help them with this one

And ends with:

Time to cry into your life-size anime figure pillows guys

The guy is good for a laugh, I'll give him that. I don't know how anyone can take anything he writes seriously though...

If a clown with green hair and big feet, in the middle of his routine exclaimed what his extra-terrestrial sources claimed this weeks lottery numbers were (5)(23)(32)(46)(13)(3) and then sure enough, when you were watching the live draw 5 of the 6 numbers came up.

How many times would that need to happen before you could take the clown seriously?

Nice analogy... I would take your hypothetical clown seriously, when it became statistically very unlikely that he was making it up, but only when it came to things which could eventually be proven one way or another. If he started telling me things that could never really be confirmed (like that his alien aunt had cornflakes for breakfast) then I would remain sceptical.

I do like the imagery you've given me though... Whenever I think of [that man] now, I will imagine him with green hair and big floppy shoes, ranting about the failings of the evil nvidia while he unicycles around, balancing a bucket of pink custard on his head :p

To be fair to Charlie if you see an article with his name attached you know where you stand the same can't be said for a couple of other journalists I care not to mention. Read around the flame bait language he does at least post some insightful analysis such as he’s write ups on Fermi and the problems facing it, cost of production etc, etc.

Is there any more news from GTC? Are we actually going to see anything good like a dual chip GTX495 etc?

@ iamTaheo
Last I heard was the dual chip card has been canned, but that was just rumour.

In my opinion it doesn't currently make much sense for Nvidia to do a dual GPU card.
If the single card has less margin than selling 2x GTX460's then it just doesn't make any sense from a financial perspective, and if it doesn't take the performance crown from the 6970 (or even 5970) then what's the point?

That is absolutely increadible. That's the kind of thing that the average non-photo enthusiast home user could find extremely useful.
