Hi gang!

Im looking to upgrade my system but cannot for the life of me decide weather to have a 3870 XT ICEQ3 TURBO or a BFG OC2 GTX!

Depending on your advise i will at a later date be running two of the cards or either crossfire or SLi!

Ive read a lot about both cards and it kinda 50/50. I play a lot of games CS:S etc but want to get crysis and COD4 but my current system wont let me, so i want something that will run these games and more in the near future with ease and don't break a sweat basicly.

The system i will upgrading to is:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz
G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-8000C5 (2x2GB)
Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775) - motherboard depending on GFX card.
Antec Quattro 850W PSU

Im sure this info will help. The monitor i have atm is a 19" but i will be upgrading in the not so far future! about a 24".

Thank guys :)

3870 if you hard core cs:s less fog for some reason in dust maps same fps maybe even better then gtx on source games cost less to then you can get 8500 and 3870

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply, sounds good i like less smoke ;) hahaha, well i will have to see what my budget says when i throw in the E8500 cpu into the equation lol

cheers

Hi im not sure on a 620W, i have a hiper 580W and i have got two HDD's, 3 fans and it doesnt want me to have anything extra as the system doesnt function properly then! i have tried getting a good PSU about 720W but most of the good 1's r SLi, or can i use the SLi complaintant psu's on a crossfire mobo and gfx card?????

hmmmmmmmm

and what better gfx card could i get with the money that i save?

The hiper 580w psu is possibly the worst psu you can have, it does not provide the correct wattage and is prone to randomly blowing up :D

a corsair 620 will be fine :)

now onto graphics:

a 3870 will play cod4 etc fine.... but will not play crysis anywhere near the quality that a 8800 GT/GTX/ULTRA will do :)

and again... none of these cards will run crysis on very high, you would be talking 3-way-sli with 8800 ultras to get 30-40fps on very high on crysis ;)

so i would advise a ocuk 8800 GTX for £204.99, this will kick any games, and let you play crysis on high at 1240*1028 res :)

a sli compatible psu will be fine :)

read my above edited post :)

don't worry about the energy bills, most decent psu's are very efficient, and remember a 620w psu is not alway drawing 620watts, it only draws what it requires, you may find that you only rarely go above 500watts, if you monitored it :)

hi

thanx 4 the quick reply, well i think i will stick to the 8800GTX then and maybe jus maybe SLi it in the future :) thanx for all the info!

if you want to do sli then wait, you will see a drop in price of the GTX in about 3 weeks time due to the release of the 9800gx2 which is 2 8800GT's stuck together, this maybe a better option for you, if you have you heart set on SLI
