NVIDIA Prepares GeForce 436.02 Gamescom Special Graphics Drivers

RTX 2070 Super old driver vs new gamescom driver

Well done Nvidia for extracting even more performance out of their cards

Big decrease in some, im playing Exodus again at the mo, so will hold off from these for now :p
I wouldn't take one persons test as fact tho. I found it amusing he assumed turning RT on the performance would be less than previous driver too but he should have tested that, ie, RT on with both driver versions to see if there was an improvement with RT enabled. I don't really see the point in comparing a GPU with RT with itself in the same game with just different drivers but RT off. IMO, it should be RT on as first priority or ideally both, as most users will be using RT.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's flaws in his testing that is showing at least some of the differences.

AHH balls the pixel scaler for retrogames is for Turing only? That sucks as would be the perfect feature for my arcade pc now that the CRT in it is on its way out and it's looking like I will have to go LCD :(

This is why i am keeping my FG2421 is weirdly works like a CRT in retro games. I was going to use onboard intel with this 4770k when it dies. I guess now a proper arcade cabinet would want a super cheap Turing.

I don't suppose this big driver update has fixed the Windows 10 borderless full screen GSync issues people have been reporting for over a year now?

AFAIK that is a MS problem more than it is an nVidia one :| (last I heard nVidia were trying to find a work around but MS broke something that is required for intended functionality in 1803 onwards and GL getting MS to sort anything).

I did try searching again for an answer to this in the context of the 436.02 drivers, but no one is asking or answering this question directly it seems. It also looks like NVidia has modified its webpage format so the mega-thread I was relying on for news is now practically impossible to navigate to the most recent posts:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforc...1803-windowed-g-sync-broken-hotfix-released-/

That was on page 67ish last I remember, and it's now been changed to an annoying 'scroll down for more' format that'll probably take half an hour to get to the latest posts (unless I'm just retarded at internet 2.0 - definitely a possibility).

I have to admit, with cards like the KFA2 2070 Super around at £480 I'd be very tempted, even though I'm fairly sure ray tracing and DLSS will not be my cup of tea in my quest to get a solid 100 fps at 3440x1440. However, with the borderless windowed GSync bug not being completely and unequivocally acknowledged and eliminated, no NVidia card can grace my system as it stands - and this is coming from someone who went with the GTX 970 and GTX 1070 Ti over AMD in the last few years.

There is a sort by (latest/oldest) option just under the first post - but yeah that is a horrid format and utterly useless in most cases.

As per some of the more recent posts in that thread MS has made changes to prevent tampering with DWM and not working with nVidia to provide working functionality.

**** Microsoft and **** Windows 10.

EDIT: I've not actually checked the latest driver but contrary to some claims in that thread I've had working window/borderless G-Sync on Windows 7 with recent drivers.

EDIT2: Wonder if from some of the recent posts it is possible to fix on a case by case basis by injection a call to SetAppCompatData :s

Honestly, the sharpen filter and some of the effects are pretty cool to mess around with. Had a quick go with Oblivion which is an ever-stay on my PC and it looked really nice. Its there and its free...use it or dont but its a nice option to have.

Ah ha, I see the sort button now, cheers.

I found a few more recent and manageable threads in the meantime. This one describes the problem on my 1070 Ti:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforc...in-windowed-or-borderless-windowed-games-is-/

I believe this started for me since 417.71. It's continued on through 418.91. The issue is that games running in windowed or borderless windowed mode seem to have problems "syncing" with Gsync. It manifests as moderate stuttering/inconsistent frame times. I can verify this by watching my monitor's refresh rate display - normally it'd be a smooth lock to whatever the game's frame rate is, but now it's sporadic. For example, if I'm running something like Witcher 3 capped to 60 fps, the refresh display will show constant jittering between ~50-70 fps. Exclusive fullscreen is still perfect/normal.

Of course I have a FreeSync monitor, so I'm an illegal unsupported intruder not to ever be acknowledged by NVidia, but what's reported above is accurate, except with my monitor it also flickered like crazy going out of sync. Exclusive full screen and all was hunkey dorey with GSync on over FreeSync. Took me quite a while to figure out what the problem was - initially I just assumed my monitor was crap at GSync and I'd been led up the garden path by reviews claiming otherwise.

So I just bought an Nvidia 1070 for another rig, the Nvidia GFX control panel is just so ugly, I don't think it's moved on in the 10 years!
