Nvidia Releasing Something Big???

But the overclocked GTX460 beats the 5850 by a big margin in some games too, and even beats the 5870 in some! I don't doubt that some of the 5850's clock really well, but do all 5850's really clock to ~942 (30%) on the core easily? And even if they do, isn't that only just matching a 5870 (with a decent memory overclock thrown in)? I distinctly remember reading posts here that a lot of the 5850's that were non-reference actually overclocked fairly poorly.

And a lot of them clock to 1015 (40%)? I won't argue that i've seen several people with 1000+ core overclocks in their sigs, but is it really a lot of them?

I'm glad you like many aspects of the GTX460, seems the vast majority (press and punter alike) think they're awesome, but i'm not sure you're being totally accurate about the performance comparisons.

Liike drunkenmaster said ati's cards clock very well and if and when the 5850 drops down to launch prices it will be even better than it is now.

I do think people are happy to see nvidia bring out a very good card it is not just price but power and heat as well.
people like the overclocked 460 1gig is because it costs only £10 more, if the price were £25 to £30 more then the stock 460 then it would be about the same as the 5850 then it wouldn't fair so well.

Im guessing ATI where just waiting to see how competetive this card was.I think they could have brought a refresh out earlier if it was needed.
The designs for the 58** would needed to be signed off around this time last year for it to be able to be produced for the launch. As Fermi was late to the table they had no reason to release a tweaked version of the card but im sure they wont have been sitting there twiddling their thumbs.
It made no business sense for them to revamp the card when they could just sit and wait a year and bring out the 6*** with all the tweaks as they had no competition.
Im sure they will just alter pricing accordingly and will start leaking info shortly about their next cards like Nvidia did for 7 months. :) My 2 cents anyways :)

ATI don't leak info TBH. Usually they just call a press conference, give details of the cards and announce a date within a week or two.

Makes sense ;) since they will probably sell a lot more, appealing to a more popular price bracket. A few stores got in on the hype train with their nvidia teaser clocks and graphics.

Precisely, it's all about the mid-range these days! :)

Nvida who?
It is about time they pulled their fingers out and produced something special and re-gain their title
