Hey! Im having a little problem with my new graphics card and its drivers (GTX 470). Im currently trying to set my resolution back to how it used to be with my ATI 4870, but when trying to resize my desktop, it keeps choosing the Recommended resolution and then resizing (1920x1080). I only want to resize the 1440x900 as its overscanning, but the damned thing wont let me :mad:

*edit* just to add, it lets me resize other resolutions, but as soon as it hits the 1080p ones, it automatically goes to the Native one.. Dunno why, but 1440x900 just looks better for me.

Hi there, may I ask what the model number of your monitor is?

Can I just confirm that your problem is you can get a non-native resolution running on your 1080p monitor?

It is a 32PFL5522D. The problem is that once I choose my resolution 1440x900(which causes a slight overscan), so I go into adjust desktop size and position and click resize desktop. As soon as I click that it puts the resolution to 1920x1080 and then lets me adjust it from that resolution. It wont let me adjust the size from the resolution I had originally chosen.

Hope that makes sense.

Yea, I can change those without it defaulting to recommended. It's just when i try one of the 1080p resolutions. Been using 1440x900 for so long now, every other one doesnt seem right :p. I guess if there is no fix, I will have to stick with one of the 720p ones (currently stuck with 1280x720 as its next one down).

Just weird that it does that in the first place and well.. annoying too.
 
The thing is - your TV only has 1366 x 768 physical pixels. If you run it at a resolution above this it has to do sub-pixel "tricks" to achieve the new resolution - so it won't look as good as the native resolution. How does the TV look when running at 1366x768 res?

It looks fine, but its just too big for me and dark (no HD version). Hence why 1440x900 just looks better. It's just annoying that it wont let me resize the resolution I chose.. :mad:
 
Should always run native res. Anything else introduces scaling that blurs text etc. Get it right and it's as crisp as a PC monitor. What do you mean by native res looks too big and dark??

1440x900 is 1080p mode and looks brighter, where as the native res doesnt have 1080p or 720p, so looks a lot darker and cloudy and just generally looks too enlarged on this screen (I like it zoomed out, but not too zoomed like it does with 1920x1080) when compared to using the other res.

I guess it's a bit of a preference thing from having used 1440x900 for so long.
 
What you have discovered is that NV's HDTV resolutions are more restrictive than AMD's, who seem to of covered all of the bases better.

Maybe there's a way of forcing custom resolutions with NV drivers?

If it is TV, so how did you connect it - via HDMI ? HDMI has got some issues with non-native resolutions (like 720i/p, 1080i/p), so try another socket, like D-Sub, many TVs still have it.
 
Sounds like what you're experiencing is your TV or GPU having different default settings for different modes. If native looks too dark - adjust the brightness! Native will always potentially look the best. There can be some hassle setting this up with HDMI though - in my experience, to get HDMI to behave you need to set to native res of the screen, make sure GPU is applying no scaling (my 5850 applied 15% underscan by default for HDMI), and that the TV is also applying no under/overscan (most will apply overscan by default with HDMI as that is part of the standard - you need to find 1:1 pixel mapping mode). You then get a clear, crisp 1:1 display on your TV looking as good as a PC monitor - no nasty blurring. If things are then too big/small, you can adjust font sizes etc in windows.

Or if you like your usual res, stick with that :)
