NVIDIA Retained 80% Discrete GPU Market Share Versus AMD’s 20% In Q2 2022 Despite Gaming Revenue Losses

I don't see anything changing when the next gen launches. I for one refuse to play Russian roulette when it comes to AMD's drivers, stability and overall package, when I can pick Nvidia and get 100% stable gaming performance without having to tinker and 'fix' things out of the box.

Having more time to game is worth paying a premium for me - I suspect this is the case with the majority of gamers, hence the market share Nvidia has grown to. Crazy times!

Only time I had some amd issues was with my MSI twin frzr 290 so don't think this is the reason anymore, although one thing I found highly infuriating with amd was the way undervolt settings etc. would reset randomly upon a restart, happened with all my amd gpus and on various window builds so wasn't a gpu/windows thing. Once my drivers are setup the way they should be, that is me done, I'll probably never go in the control panel again.

The reason why nvidia have more marketshare is simple, as I posted in another thread:

There is a very good reason why a lot of people go nvidia and it's because they are "usually" ahead of the game when it comes to certain features e.g. gsync, ray tracing, dlss, tessellation, streaming capabilities/quality with shadowplay/nvenc just to name a few, not everyone especially enthusiast pc gamers want to wait years for the "underdog" to catchup especially if they are charging in the same ballpark as the competition.

How many times have amd gpu owners (myself included when I owned their gpus) stated, amd are "working" on their version only to be left waiting years for a subpar version to be released then wait another several months/years for it to catch up in quality....

It's a bit like how people used to (and one of the reasons I stuck with amd until the vega 56) and some still do keep saying with amd being in consoles, it will benefit them yet here we are, still waiting for that to happen.... meanwhile, look at all the ps5 games that have been ported over to PC, they all run better on nvidia and in some cases, a good chunk better (even with the dx 12 versions so it's not a dx 11 advantage for nvidia). Maybe amd will fix/improve their performance in these in a few months or years like they recently did with dx 11? Sorry I mean age like "fine wine" :p

The thing that summed it up well for me was their live shows last year, amd spent maybe about 2 minutes on desktop gpu space where as nvidias whole show was for gaming/desktop gpu space. I'm expecting with consoles out of the way and them having solidified their other partnerships for amd to focus more on the desktop gpu space over the next 1-2 years.

Never had a problem with AMD drivers this generation. I’ve had issue with Nvidia though especially when it comes to eARC and my specific amplifier. The idea that Nvidia can give you 100% stable performance is clearly nonsense.

I've heard that this generation of AMD GPU's have better drivers - though we have to accept that millions of gamers have voted with their wallets, Nvidia have an 80% market share.

Also, on ocuk forum (and many other forums) there tends to be a huge following of enthusiasts, that are emotionally (and often financially) invested into AMD. These fans will flood forums, with countless posts that AMD drivers are perfect, no issues etc, making the truth very hard to discern. They're actually the minority (else AMD's market share would not be so low), though they're active and passionate enough that they attempt to 'take over' many forums, painting a different picture of reality. It's quite strange.

I not sure if AMD will every get near parity with Nvidia, simply put Nivida dedicates a large share of it's available wafers to producing consumer graphics cards where as AMD uses it's supplies on consoles and CPU's.

It’s a bizarre perspective to have if you don’t have any experience of AMD GPU’s. Maybe those ‘fans’ are actually painting a true picture of their experience, unlike your own which seems to be based on assumption and perception.

There are a couple of reasons why people tend to go with Nvidia, including feature set, perceived driver superiority, and because Nvidia has very successfully over generations positioned and priced itself as the ‘premium’ brand.

My 6800XT driver experience has been "acceptable" in that I have been able to play my games with good performance.

However, I have seen one driver break VR and another reduce performance in VR while being otherwise "stable". In both cases, I just rolled back the driver and all was good.

My nights of troubleshooting/faultfinding that ended up with NV driver blitzing out of the OS while trying to get Vrr working on a retina destroying 65S95B Qd Oled says hello.:p

Lost all my manually imputed NvCP game/colour/fps profiles, have to start all over again as I had to nuke NV drivers and start all over again.

You're lucky you didn't try use the OLED with an AMD GPU then! Countless issues! The LG CX/1/2 range play much better out of the box with Nvidia.

What's AMD and LG got to do with NV and Samsung?

There's your problem right there-assumption. :p

I've pointed out NV have driver problems of their own, but obviously you're not having it.

Not clear which unit you mean there, though hope you understand that just to maintain 80%+, requires many hundreds of thousands of GPU sales each generation.
All of the 'easily available to purchase' FE's.

I'm shocked(not shocked)NV didn't increase marketshare with the FE range.

I'm saying both maintained marketshare despite the notion of some that AMD's market share would decrease

Ive not used an Nvidia card for a while, had my Vega56 for 5 years now :)eek:) and a 290 before that so I can really comment on the state of current Nvidia driver but I can say that AMDs drivers have been great for me. I've been more than happy with the stability of the drivers and their features, not having to use seperate software for overlocking and monitoring is great.
Problem for AMD is most general users don't even consider them as an alternative regardless of performance and the people seem to consider their drivers as bad even when its not the case anymore, probably due to Nvidia propaganda posts such as this.

Feels like Nvidia have had the lions share of the market for some time. Better marketing I guess rather than anything else. As soon as AMD caught in in performance, Nvidia dropped the RTX tech. Even if it’s not for everyone and still not quite there when it comes to performance, it’s still a selling point
