NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

Hi,

Been shoppping around for a 5080. Haven't bought a card in a while. Used to be the price difference between "big brands" and "cheaper" brands was fairly marginal. But now it seems to be hundreds and hundreds of pounds. Are brands like Palit just as good as the likes of Asus / MSI? (clock speed differences aside)? I usually try and get a brand I know and trust... but for a £300 premium thats looking less sensible.

Should be fine, else warranty. GPU and memory are the same, so how badly can you make a pcb design (if not reference design, which entry level should be anyway)?

You just wondering where the cost cuts actually are. If things like marketing then I'm on board. If cheaper solder..... not so much. :p

Robots assemble most of it, I imagine, you can suppose all of them use the cheapest materials possible to pass the warranty period. Differences for the non entry become apparent in nr. of phases (current cleanup), maybe some fuses, usually way heavier cooling, so better, rgb lights. The few quid that they spend on marketing also comes into effect :)

LE: oh, btw, not saying get A or B, I like fancy shiny things, but 50% difference between models does make one a bit sick.

Yes, after years and years of having all kinds of cards from all brands, the smaller AIBs are just as good as the bigger ones. You might not get the slickest design or branding that's cohesive with other components that manufacturer offers, but they generally perform the same.

The other thing to consider is a lot of those "smaller" AIB brands are actually owned by larger companies. For example, Palit owns both Galax and Gainward.

So, in a nutshell. For a basic gamer who games with headphones. Kinda silly to pay £1300 for an Asus card where I can get a Palit for £999 ?

PNY is an established (preferred) maker of the workstation (expensive!) cards, another example, so they have some reputation to uphold. Inno3D, formerly innovision, is I think the oldest nvidia partner (they made my Riva TnT 2).

I've had three Palits (2080Ti, 3090 and 5090) and they've all been fine. They're not the prettiest or the quietest cards, but their thermals have been decent. While none of them have been coil whine-free (only my Inno3D 4090 managed that), it's been bearable in every case. The only truly awful card I ever had for coil whine was a 1080Ti FE.

On the other hand, PNY is based in New Jersey, so you run the risk of your card smelling of industrial waste, hotdog water and/or cheap tanning oil. Drakkar Noir, if you're lucky.

I’ve had enough of waiting. Taking matters into my own hands: I’m going to will my card into existence. Aiming for a dispatch today. Lets goooo.

*concentrates*
Instructions unclear, concentrated so much my breakfast is down my leg. I just want my card now if not just to place it against anything and everything in the house to compare the shear girth on him
