NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

There's about 5% in it compared with the fastest CPU available. However, this won't take into account things which are particularly CPU intensive (e.g. if ray-tracing punishes the CPU). See here:

Keep in mind this is with a 4090. System specs here. Read the review.
That's about right, when I had a 5950X and 4090, the 4090 is some games even at 4K with maxed out settings it was hovering at around 90% to 95% GPU usage in certain scenes, the Division 2 and FC6 were two of those games. Swapped to the 5800X3D and it was able to keep the GPU at full load just about in the Division 2 but still a bit limited in FC6, so a 5090 is really going to need at least a 7800XD and faster at 4K native to keep that GPU at full load most of the time, especially with DLSS even on quality and RT on top.

Derbauer's issues with PCIe 5.0 on the 5080FE are rather concerning. Whether it's a general issue with the design of the card (i.e. the separate boards) or just bad QA on his sample, either way it's not good.

Sounds like they shipped FE cards with bad firmware

I really didn't think the 5080 would be slower than the 4090, what a disappointing generation. I'll have to get a stop-gap card until the 6000 series, likely 5070ti or 9070XT.

And you are paying 3x the cost of that 2060, cracking upgrade 6 years on lol. You could have had same performance a year a go.

For a 4080 super? And remind me of the price of those a year ago. The 5080 is what 10% faster roughly for similar price and you get frame gen. I would also have been massively excited to get a 4080 super too. The point is those coming from 2xxx or 3xxx series are likely to see a big jump compared to what they're used to and I'm sure a lot of us will be mega happy with that. It's not difficult to understand is it?

It sucks how expensive GPU's are in general of course, but that is the market.

The way I see it is I thought the 4080 was overpriced at its original £1200~ price. Now 2.5 years later into a new generation you get the same performance +10% for £1000~, that's terrible in my eyes and a big let down as I was looking for a good upgrade from the 3080 which only cost £650.
5070ti looks okay but I'm doubting if that will even hit base 4080 performance now. Second hand 4080 for £700-750 may be been the move.

The most positive thing I can say about 5080 performance is that it's great news for existing 4080 & 4080 Super owners. Residuals are not going to drop much, at least until a 384bit 5080ti arrives.

Feel for ya. Stil have 3080 10gb. Skipped 4000 series due to silly pricing, 2 years wasted...6000 prob 2 years away...
