NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Hmm. What’s more likely… the asteroid landing in 2032, or the pre-order Astrals?
It's all OK lads, OCUK just got in a pallet of these bad boys!

1 card being bricked out of the 68 or so sent out isn't really that bad odds. More likely for an asteroid to hit in 2032 than that...
Rubbish - 1 out of 68 is 1.47% chance, asteroid hitting Earth in 2032 is much less than 1% chance (or rather over 99% that it will miss and this is increasing the longer they observe its orbit). :P

The 4090s I had were totally **** with coil whine, were not acceptable to me even with under-volts and I sent them back - so it’s not as if I willingly accept utter rubbish.

But there should be scope for wiggle room / tolerance. Worth trying to find a solution if a card doesn’t work for you at stock as a replacement card could have the same issues.
My Inno3D Ichill X3 4090 has 0 coil whine, However I wouldn't touch this brand with a barge pole again because their RGB software doesn't work I had to connect the crappy cable at the end of the GPU to disable the LEDs and the paste Inno uses pumped out on mine within about 8 weeks, Had to strip it and slap some PTM on.

Terrible brand and terrible support that didn't have a clue when I messaged them.

I might be too old to hear coil whine anymore (though back in the days CRT monitors always were audible to me with that) but my Zotac 4090 has 0 coil whine, whereas PNY 3080Ti had a horrible one. Things like that seem to vary a lot between cards of even the same exact model. You just never know till you get it, as there's no rule.

I did read somewhere can't remember where they said it tended to be the more expensive brands that used better caps or coils or something that caused bad coil whine whereas the cheaper brands didn't and surprisingly didn't have coil whine or very little.

My old Gainward Phoenix 980ti had awful coil whine.

Waiting for a 5090FE restock, whenever that happens, but got an alert for a PNY 5090 triple fan OC and out of idle curiosity clicked the link and added it to my basket.

Then saw the notification that +250 people also had it in their baskets. Deleted it and chuckled to myself.

Seems they’re still very much in demand and lots of people are trying their luck via alerts.

Never had coil whine on my Zotac, maybe you were unlucky?
