Nvidia Shadowplay - Question

Simple one really.

I used it a few times to record some commentary videos at 4k, but it seemed to impact performance quite badly.

For instance, Dying Light was 35-50fps whilst recording and 60-90fps with it disabled.

Is that just because I was recording?

OR

Does it actually have performance impact as soon as it's enabled? I only realised I left it on because I had a green FPS counter in the corner whilst watching a movie.

It'll only have an impact whilst recording - however having shadow mode on means that it is recording in every game.

I would love it if I could set shadow mode and manual mode on a per game basis.

Not sure if it was ever fixed but from what I remember...

Single card, shadowplay recording, performance hit sub 5%.

Multi card, shadowplay recording, performance hit in excess of 20%

Shadowplay was broken with sli for a while, as I said though, not sure if this is still the case or if it's as bad as it once was.

You need an external capture card if you want to record video for performance reasons.

4K + SLI + other bottlenecks if present like busy system bus, slow capture media, etc. can have a far bigger hit than at lower resolutions.

Yeah, Shadowplay has traditionally had problems in SLI. No idea if they ever acknowledged it. Try the latest GTA driver it's supposed to have improvements for your very issue.
