Is the Nvidia Shield K1 still the best price/performance tablet? Or is there something newer and better? The Shield will probably be a bit of an overkill, the tablet will be used 90% of the time for web browsing and movies so not bothered about the gaming part.

Imo yes. Nothing really comes close to it yet. I am truly hoping that Nvidia come up with a successor this year because Android badly needs a decent price/performance tablet since the K1 is almost impossible to find. The shield had everything needed to make it a great tablet.

The Shield was avaiable over xmas, and still is from a few places, including Amazon. I ordered one :)

Only thing is now, the controller is absent.

Around my area they were available with PrimeNow, so got it. The RRP was 150 even on Nvidia website a few months back though... :( Brexit rulezz yay.

Mrs got me one for Xmas, she only managed to order one last Wednesday and got it before Santa left for work.

It's a really nice tablet for the money, doesn't seem to work that well with my router Asus RT-N66U though. Neither does the Shield TV console that I bought earlier this year. Shame as they're nice to use, just struggle with the Gamestream feature.

I've been on the Nvidia forums and tweaked the router, but it's not really helped much.

Bought 2 :p

Let us know how you get on with the battery life and charging times :) After my last experience I am quite interested in that.

Got mine. Charging off my PC. Didnt even come with a USB cable :(

I think different chargers will have an effect on the charge times. I have quite a few lying around with different output amps.

Yeah, you get nothing with the tablet apart from the device itself. I owned one for about a week and ended up sending it back - I could literally watch the battery % drop in some cases and the battery on various 2.4A chargers took over 12hrs to charge. Figured I had a bad device but started reading of others with similar issues.

Charging from your PC will be quite slow mate, as your ports will output 500mA. Grab a good 2.4A charger and you're set. Amazon should have some good Anker ones on sale atm.

On an old LG USB Charger it took all night to charge up to 100%, if the tablet will be like this. I'll send it back and see what else I can get for a budget of 200.

Battery life isn't the same as my Nexus 7 2013 but the performance is great so I cant complain about battery life but I don't play games on mine.

The battery is probably 3 times bigger than most phones, it's not unrealistic to expect it to take 2 to 3 times longer to charge.

just got a K1 tablet today to have a play with

any tips from current owners?

just need to get used to the screen ratio compared to the ipad mini

Which is probably 500mA so will take 12hrs+ to charge it.
Get a good 3A charger.
