NVidia Shield TV

i just this off the black friday sales. one quick question, it seems like the google play store is different on it and a lot of the stuff is no there. can you still get the itv player and the psp simulator, it appears to me those things are gone.

but i am very happy with this so far though

I think apps have to be marked as compatible with Android TV to show up on the store.

You may need to root or do something similar to 'trick' the store into installing any app, or otherwise side load apps. I'd expect a quick Google would explain how.

Hi Guys

Slightly disappointed I can't watch 4K netflix on my Philips Monitor

Why not? Not got hdmi 2.0 that is hdcp compliant? Because I'm wanting a shield tv purely for 4k Netflix and 4k amazon prime £20 pay per own films.

If it doesn't work I'm not wanting one.

Mine arrives today (hopefully) or tomorrow (probably more likely).

Anyone loaded up some local 4 player games? I'd love to play football and racing games with the guys using xbox controllers!

You either side load them and then you gotta go into options > applications every time you wanna load something or you root and load default android which lets you download all apps from the play store.

I prefer using default android over android tv.

It does run 4K. I used Shield Stream even and played my PC games over my LAN in 4K. Netflix 4K content works fine, don't know about Amazon.

This threads gone silent, how's everyone getting on
With this device, about to hit buy whilst the controller offer lasts?

Does anyone know a good one of those wifi mouse/keyboard/remote thingies to use with the shield please? I'm getting sick of using the remote to search for films, I just want to type.

You can use pretty much any USB keyboard/mouse.

I've got a Microsoft Media Keyboard that works fine. Most of the function buttons map correctly too like home, volume etc.

You can't just start typing though. You need to be in the search box first.

It's a bit of a shame it's not getting upgraded hardware. The flash drive makes it nice and zippy but 16GB is just too small if you are getting any of the games.

I've had the 16GB 2016 model for several months and It's a great bit of kit.

I bought it to try out the GeForce Now as I'm only a casual gamer these days and it keeps the kids happy.

Now they are opening up Multiplayer online support for the GeForce Now side of it I'll likely put the new 500GB model under the living room TV.

The new 2017 box is smaller and the new redesigned controller has better voice control features.

Fast reliable internet network is a must for the GFN game streaming but if you do have a nice solid stable line then it's awesome. (I have FTTH and ping the Northern Europe server in Ireland @ 16ms with no packet loss and minimal jitter.......I live in Northern France these days) Ultra setting @1080p 60fps is awesome without have a couple of grand sitting in a gaming rig.
It can do many other things too on the TV side of things.

What's the GeForce Now experience like? Can you tell it's running at 1080p60? nVidia are now touting 4K + HDR if your net connection can handle it.

For me the GeForce Now play is brilliant. I'm no hard core gamer but the last three tiles I've been playing via the GFN network are Mad Max (paid) and Tomb Raider (Included with membership) and F1 2015 (paid). I'm sure someone with a high end PC might be able to tell some small difference but me I was blown away by the quality. (I did have the box on a network cable and not WiFi) The bundled games included in membership keep the kids happy and there is plenty to browse through in the more adult genres that are included in membership.

Only down side have been no multiplayer online and lack of juicy AAA (paid) titles but it seems like those two points are about to change whilst keeping a price point for membership similar to Netflix.

I'll wait a little while to see how the new service goes and if it's rock n 'roll then I'll put the 500GB 2017 model box in the living room and keep the 2016 model 16GB upstairs in the"Office"

Last year there was 3 months free trial of GFN but this year it's only 1 month. (Still worth it......especially if your looking for a TV streaming box anyway)

I must just reiterate the requirement for a solid fast and stable internet access if your leaning towards the GFN side of the boxes capabilities.
