NVIDIA Skips G81, Goes Straight For G90?

Lol I was nearly put off buying a 8800gtx in december because I kept hearing the R600 would be out in JAN. In custom PC I will remember reading something along the lines of 'we'll see how long the new 8800 owners will be grinning for...' well I know I have been grinning for months ;) :D

Eventually had enough of waiting...was starting to annoy me

Had a 6600 / Bad Axe 2 / Crucial 10th rig with a 7600 in it

8800GTS 320mb ordered and getting delivered tomorrow :D

Will leave it till the end of the year before upgrading to something to power
a 24" hopefully ATI will have there finger out by then thus giving Nvidia some
competion.

Roll on tomorrow :D

We wouldn't know about the slow part would we.

Price, top end cards frm both nvidia and ati = always have been more or less the same.

hot = not too much of a concern here, on water-cooling.

I was messing really. Just gotta laugh at people saying they will buy one straight away, even though they might be rubbish!

this news just warrants my 8800 purchase even more :D

buy 8800 now or buy r600 later and regret ever buying it.

r600 is gonna be a rushed project and as always the drivers are going to be flaky to say the least.

look at the x1900 series, only now are decent drivers starting to appear to make the card useable. give it till 2008 and the x1900 drivers should be near perfect.

just, what? vista drivers are only just working for nvidia, sli for 8800 series isnt' available, they are apparently remarkably dodgey still and this is, wait, 6 months after the cards were out. since when do ati have bad drivers, been using my x1900 for around a year, a x1800 before that and i can't really remember any real issues in the whole time with any game not working. likewise in years past with x800's, 9800's, 5900, 6800's there are always a couple issues found in new games on both sides of the fight. also fixes for said games within days of launch when very few people even have the games yet. even the games with issues are generally playable but like AA doesn't work or something along those lines.

everyone, but everyone with a 8800 has been bemoaning crappy drivers lately. some people complain about ati's too, both are pretty solid to be fair.

also assumgin cyber was joking about the r600, as in, its 100% not true, but i don't know if he's joking or he really believes it himself :p

fact is, the 8900 on 80nm or 65nm will have either lesser or equal specs to the x2800. if its 65nm it might have a clock speed advantage, IT MIGHT NOT. if its 80nm they won't fit a 512mbit bus in which puts all specs equal cept lower bus. they will both be very very similar cards all told. likewise the 8800/8900 are going to be virtually identical anyway.

ati ARE late to the dx10 cards, but vista is only just out so there wasn't dx10 till just now, there is still not a single dx10 game out. not even sure what the first game will be, is stalker dx10 now? if so it will be out within 1-2 weeks of ati's cards most likely. ati lost the enthusiast race to the highest 3dmark score, but the marketing score. if they can claim and spout all around the world that they had the first working dx10 card and drivers out with sli support that carrys a lot of weight in the press. enthusiast race = 0.00005% of the market. marketing race can win the rest of it, really, it can.

Talking a lot of sense there Drunken ;).

I have went from loads of crappy cards to 9800Pro > X800XT PE > PCI-X 7600GT OC > X1900. I have to admit that I've never had a problem with any of them at all. No driver issues, no overheating just plain old good gaming fun.

Cyber Mav you seem to be one of the unluckiest gamers I've heard off.

The only problem I've ever had was a dying PSU about 3 years ago with the 9800Pro showing artifacts. I though the card was overheating and dying but still lives on today in a rig I've just sold. Original fan, overclocked and through every driver release without a problem. Same as with the X800 and X1900. Even the 7600GT OC drivers were fine.

ATI are not dead by far but they do have an uphill struggle to get back to normality. Nvidia couldn't compete with ATI until G80 with cards that were weaker and still couldn't handle AA & HDR. Also the image quality was nothing compared to ATI. Nvidia stayed strong and released a corker of a card that has rocked Nvidia's world ;). To doubt ATI could leave so many of you with egg on your face as Nvidia has left a lot of ATI fan boys with yolk dripping from their chins.

Don't hate :D appreciate ;)

What the chuff are you talking about? X1900 drivers have always worked perfectly for me... same with the 9800 PRO drivers before those...

And how can the R600 be "rushed" if it's been heavily delayed? Please start moderating your posts for tripe.

Lets get a few things straight here,

AMD have said they are going to make sure that the new AMD will have higher quality drivers than before

I've had my x1900xtx since Feb last year, the drivers worked from the day i got the card with every game i played, flawlessly and they have gotten better as time passes.

R600 hasn't been rushed and nobody can comment on the drivers as those who can are under NDA, so you will have to wait for 3rd party reviews for that one.
