Nvidia stopping modified drivers that help their own consumers!

Astonished at how many people seem in awe of NGOHQ's response and how NVidia were "owned" by it.

Err, what?

The response is poorly worded, even allowing for English not being their native tongue. It has spelling mistakes and grammatical errors everywhere, repeats itself ad nauseum and rants on endlessly about how just about everything NVidia does is illegal. NGOHQ come across as a child having a strop in that response tbh.

Personally I'm with NVidia on this one, regardless of how poor or manipulative their driver support is, this doesn't give anyone else the right to modify their drivers to allow them to install on non-supported hardware, as problems arising from their use will inevitably reflect badly on NVidia.

Why cant NV just chill a little like AMD/ATI:

AMD/ATI said:
"Feel free to distribute and endorse Catalyst software. Just please let your users know that if they use modified drivers we aren't able to support them properly. Keep up the good work in the community." -AMD/ATI

I know this will sound very stupid, but I was going to get a 8800GT but am just going to wait for the next AMD GPU core. I know my little one man crusade wont do anything but it makes me feel good.

I don't see any logic in that at all, you trust far too much. Also how could a bad 3rd party driver be a bad reflection on Nvidia??? ROFLMAO :D :D :D. I honestly think that Nvidia sent this letter out in the first place for other reasons than a bad 3rd party driver tarnishing the company name?.

Personally I think it's good to have optimized drivers ion both sides of the boards. Why doesn't Nvidia have the same attitude as ATI on that regard unless something is fishy?. I'm sure ATI were even as laid back about the 3rd party drivers before the 8800GTX was launched.

This makes me want to ditch my 8800, disgusting that a company could behave in this fashion.

Not sure about the comeback from NGOHQ but seems to me that Nvidia are not too impressed that the drivers offer more backward compatability.

Who wants an 8800GTS:p

I certainly get far better support and performance from my evil hacked drivers on the 7800go as I do from the 72 year olf relics that Nvidia would rather I was using.

Maybe it's just that?. Trying to push Nvidia users to new cards so they can stop supporting the older ones?. Hopefully not.

Bit iffy in the laptop sector though... I'm not even sure they support their 8 series mobile card properly and it offers nowhere near enough performance to tempt me, it'd be a sidestep with DX10 and nothing more.
It'll be a sad day for the end user if they ever manage to stop modified drivers from being released.

With the lead Nvidia gained since the 8800GTX launch they should have concentrated on their drivers for all cards. It was weird to see so many driver releases during the 2900XT release for the 8800's. There are nice gains from some of the drivers which could easily be linked to holding back on performances till it really mattered (competition). That could have well been a good sign that Nvidia are playing a lot on this advantage they have which will slow things down so they can make more money.

As for modified drivers. I think they will still be released. If there is demand, there is always some good person to say "sod it" to whatever big wig companies have to say. Just look at piracy and you'll see what I mean.

Nvidia has already done a fantastic job of making themselves look bad, with their crappy Vista drivers, and yes to a degree they acted in a dodgy manner by boasting of Vista support when clearly it was not the case at the time.

I completely agree. Though Nvidia driver support, while far from perfect, is better than a lot of people make out.

Also I'd like point out ATI are not perfect either. In an effort to increase the performance of my mates 9800Pro as best I could yesterday I decided to download the latest 7.10 drivers, which ATI said were fine. They installed great. But didn't work, at all. DirectX failed to initialize. After about half an hour of searching I found out they don't work with the 9800Pro, as well as several other cards, and was forced to find, download and install the older 7.6 drivers. Why did it send me to the 7.10 drivers when I selected 9800 on the website?

I disagree, users install the driver based on the agreement that they will recieve NO SUPPORT for it. It's not NGO's fault people can't read and understand they won't recieve support for un-official drivers.

NVIDIA DRIVERS

Well what can i say,its about time NVIDIA got a kick in the backside, yet again like Microsoft they release software bugged to hell,if NVIDIA got it correct they wouldnt have other people correcting there mistakes,i paid £450.00 on a top range NVIDIA card and have had to change drivers so many times to have it work with most the games i run.
Keep up the good work in Israel and last time i checked American Law didnt cover every country in the world, well not yet, mind with this joke goverment we have in the UK we could be getting there.:)
