Nvidia VGA - DVI problem

Hi, I have just changed graphics card to a GeForce GTS250 and have a strange problem with screen resolution, anyone have any ideas how I can fix this ?

Windows 7 64bit
GeForce GTS 250 512Mb
Hanns-G HW191D 19" widescreen monitor

The monitor preferred resolution is 1440x900, this is what it has been running at for the last couple of years with an old Radion graphics card.

The Radion card died and I have replaced it with a GeForce GTS 250.

Now when connecting the monitor using a DVI cable windows does not give me the option of 1440x900, it also does not appear to detect it is connected to the Hanns-G monitor.

After lots of installing/un-installing of graphics card drivers and monitor driver file I connected using a VGA cable and windows automatically sets the resolution to 1440x900 and shows the Hanns-G monitor as the display.

Changing back to the DVI cable and the same problem occurs, switch back to VGA cable and all fine.

I think the picture is crisper with DVI so would like to get this fixed.

Any ideas/suggestions on how I can get the DVI connection working correctly ?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply

I have used driver sweeper (in safe mode) and installed some older Nvidia drivers as well to try and fix the problem but no luck so far.

I don't have another DVI cable but will borrow one next week as a test, the original one was just unplugged from the pc and then reconnected so a slim chance its the problem (but I take your point).

Think I will uninstall the drivers and start from the beginning again when I get a few spare minutes.

Cheers

Well problem solved (or not in this case), after trying lots of different things I contacted the manufacturer of the graphics card and got this response:

Dear sir

Thank you for having our product

It seems your monitor is not compatible with the DVI output of the graphic card . When booting the card “reads” the monitor , what gives a signal to the card so it “knows” what resolutions are possible . Sometime this issue happens , but is not able to solve. Not also with a bios update of the card

I am sorry , but I am not able to give you a solutions

With kind regards

Some you win and some ya lose
