Nvidia's GTC 2014 Thread

I am not such a fan of Free to play games (not that I have played many) but feel you need to spend to stand a chance, so defeats the "Free to play" experience.

In other news, I am finding the news a little lame from Team Green.

I'll admit that I was a huge fan of PlanetSide 2 and spent probably over £150 on it over a couple of months, stopped playing the game though as I ended up having >1000 hours of in-game time and decided I needed to stop!

The news is slow for the moment, but GTC 2014 starts late next week so hopefully we should get some more developments from Nvidia then :)

It only take's one piece of big news to turn it around but it has been a little quiet from Nvidia so far.

Epic is also partnering with NVIDIA to integrate GameWorks into Unreal Engine 4. The various GameWorks libraries are being integrated into the mainline Unreal Engine 4 codebase, making them directly available to UE4 developers rather than requiring individual developers to bolt them on after the fact. Given Unreal Engine’s heavy use as middleware in game development, having GameWorks available to all of the UE4 licensees is a significant step up for NVIDIA, as it exposes GameWorks to a large number of developers with just a single partnership.

Well some good news for Team Green here. The UE4 will support GameWorks and Epic games are on board.

Great stuff, the UE4 demos I've seen so far (Frosty posted a couple of videos a while back) look impressive - good to know that we will have some nice optimisations for Nvidia cards with UE4 games :)

I hope they reveal some maxwell info/cards, i might go nvidia next time so i can try a bit of 3d gaming so i'd be interested to see what the performance increase is like on maxwell.

Hopefully we'll see some great performance increases, the low power usage of the 750-TI suggests that we could see some excellent high end cards which consume the same amount of power as current top cards but outperform them by a long way. We shall see!

Personally, though, I'm probably going to wait for Volta before I upgrade - these 780s are brilliant, and should be up to the job for quite a while yet.

NVIDIA GameWorks 2014 Unleashed at GDC
NVIDIA GameWorks , which we announced late last year in Montreal is available to all the developers attending the Game Developers Conference, in San Francisco, this week. NVIDIA GameWorks is a collection of technologies and tools that include visual and physical simulation software, development kits, debuggers, algorithms, engines, and libraries that can already be found in some of the industry’s top selling games.

The technologies behind NVIDIA GameWorks– such as PhysX and VisualFX – can be seen in the stunning special effects in Batman: Arkham Origins, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Now the first Unreal Engine 4-based game, Daylight, a survival-horror game from Zombie Studios, will contain a number of key NVIDIA GameWorks features. They include environmental cloth; NVIDIA’s Turbulence technology for dynamic fog, particle and smoke effects; NVIDIA PostWorks; as well as ShadowWorks (HBAO+).

Some more good news :)

Ah cool, I have literally no patience when it comes to GPU's :p

You would think I would be happy with my Ti's. Nope. What I really want is a single 20nm GPU that can cope with 1440P at max settings. Is this possible?

If Maxwell 750Ti is anything to go by, then most definitely :D

Ryan Shrout: NVIDIA will support DX12 on Fermi, Kepler, Maxwell and forward!

Ryan Shrout: Developers already have DX12 drivers. The Forza demo was running on NVIDIA!!!

That's excellent news for us then, won't need a GPU upgrade for DX12 - although, let's be honest, most of us probably are going to upgrade by the time DX12 games start appearing. Especially Boomstick :p
