Anyone has any experience of booting off a NVMe drive from a Z97 chipset.

Just curious to see if I have scope to stick a NVMe drive in my aging pc and use it as boot drive.

I would have to stick the NVMe drive into a PCIe adapter card as the board has no m.2 slot

AFAIK Z97 yes bootable, Z87 not all Vendors updated Bios to allow this (Asus for example did not, I think ASrock did) but modded Bioses fixed that.
all Z97 supports boot off PCIe? I got a asrock Z97m Pro4 board.

Just want to eek out the life span of the box for a few years before plunging into the rebuild route.

edit: since BIOS 2.1 the board has had NVMe support. great stuff.
