Nvme support?

I have a gigabyte z87-d3hp mainboard and I want to get a samsung sm951 256 gb ssd.

I have a pcie to m.2 adapter on the way, im yet to order the card.

I will be plugging this in my x16 3.0 socket (only needs x4 but the rest are 2.0)

Im guessing AHCI would work, could i get nvme working?

Main thing is, its needs to be fully functional and bootable.
