Hadn't reallllly considered this but... what's the general "level" of nvme that would generally want a heatsink.

E.g if I stay below 5000MB/sec? If I stick with PCIe3 drives... that sort of idea.

I think most are happy to throttle and it's rare drives are taking a hammering in the laptop I use. It's a consideration now though, if anyone has any possible wisdom(s) on the topic.

Any DRAMless mass market drive generally does not need a heatsink, especially if you're only gaming, but a lot of reviews do include data on thermal throttling now, including actual temperature readings (rather than just from the drive itself).

If sticking with PCI-e 3.0 the SK Hynix Gold is one of the better NVMEs for laptops - low power consumption and reasonably cool running and one of the highest real world application performance drives for PCI-e 3.0.

Thinking atm is probably a big 4TB dramless wonder and top drawer 2TB, as quick as it'll go without issues.

Running a WD SN770 and a sabrent rocket atm, not noticed issues with these but both are pcie 3 and not really pushing huge speeds compared to more recent ones.
