Im running two Maxtor drives in a RAID 0 config.

Every now and again, the drives will make a very funny loud whirring noise followed by a click

whirrr, whirrrr, click click.

I cant work out why it's doing this. It generallly occurs while there is activity though.

In XP it was fine, the system would freeze up for a moment or two until the disks went back to normal. Now that I'm on Vista, when this happens the whole computer locks up.

Any ideas whats causing this?

Well it looks as if one of your drives is nearing the end. I would go and download the maxtor drive utility now and check those hdds out.

You have backed everything up in your raid-0.... right?

Yes, thankfully i got an external disk for xmas..

These drives have always done this ever since i put them in RAID 0, they're fine without the RAID.

So what drive is everyone recommending right now, for speed & reliability?
