NXE Official thread

No, the game INSTALL on the HDD is locked to the first console and this only applies if you move the HDD around. All games will still run from disc perfectly well on any console.

I presume if you moved the HDD to a second console, deleted the game install and re-installed it, everything would be tickety-boo again. Obviously it's a pain if you move your HDD a lot.

So let me get this straight. If you install a game to a harddrive, does it then lock the game to that specific console? As in, if i had two and were to install it to one, then take the disk to the other console and try and play it it wouldn't work?

Getting mixed reports on this, some say you can still play the game in the other console, others say you have to uninstall it from the first console before you can play it in the second.

So if I installed a game on to the HD then sold it the person buying it couldnt install it to his hd ?

no just that HardDrives install cannot be used in another console.
Your still free to play from the disc, or even install it onto another hard-drive

The game can be installed to any number of consoles.

The only issue is that if you move a hdd from one console to another, you need to reinstall the game to hdd on the new console, or it will just run from the disc as normal.

This will not affect most people - just people like myself who have 2 consoles and swap one hdd between them.

Ah, people have replied...

So i'd be ok to install games to my 20gb drive, then migrate to a 120gb drive later, or an elite when/if i can afford to/get tired of being restricted to single installs....and suffer no problems?

Ahhh that's fine then. I planned on buying a 360 and then sharing games with a mate who lives around the corner/popping over and playing some coop every now and then. If i had to uninstall every time i did this it would have been a right pain.

Yeah, probably quicker to delete the game off the 20gb and reinstall on the 120 than migrating it but yeah

My enthusiasm for this update has been severely tarnished by the fact that the install is restricted to the console it was first installed on :(

Might just sell my 120gb drive on now, as its 50% useless to me...

oh, but wait, I can't move everything back on to 20gb using the migration kit can I? Of course not! MS wouldn't want to make it easy!

i'll take that evil 120GB HDD off your hands for £20 :D:D

yeah no worries, although I'd uninstall the game before migrating, just to speed up the migration process (less data to copy ;)) as it would be quicker to install the game afresh on the new HD.

I've only had two minutes during my lunch break to have a quick look around. I really like it but is it possible to have the first tab shown to be "My Xbox" rather than "What's new" ?

I find my xbox tab to be a lot more useful than reading what's new.

Has anybody heard anything about these "Premium Themes" that are on the marketplace? There doesn't seem to be any content yet but I was just wondering if these were the new animated ones that Microsoft are supposedly offering.

I'm sure some of the Gears themes that are 250 points are premium themes. I got one, Cheets mentioned it in a thread, and it just basically changes the things that are behind your friends. The picture also changes in different menus, not all but I have seen at least 3 or 4 different backgrounds on it.

can you download the updated dashboard or can it only be done by live ?

It got leaked as a download the other week which you could install via USB. In any case, MS make major updates available for offline installation too. Check the support pages on Xbox.com.
