I believe an xbox disc can hold a maximum of 8GB-8.5GB, while in fact a lot of games are probably much less than this. Even with titles maxing the disc size, you would still fit about 12 games on the HDD. That is not bad. I hope MS see sense and allow user-upgradeable HDDs in the next Xbox. That is a lovely feature of the PS3.
I suspect they might as we are ever-moving towards digital distribution as an option on consoles.
I hope so too, they could allow it this gen really by releasing some kind of caddy that we can just plug our own SATA drive into. Probably not going to happen but I see no technical reason why they can't.
They probably won't because of security issues.
