NZXT Hale82 650W Alternative (noise)

I have an NZXT Hale82 650W which I have no complaints with when idle but when I start up a game it sounds like there is an army of midgets running around inside with hair dryers. My case fans are set at a generous 1200RPM and this monster easily drowns them out.

I was limited by options due to the traditional PSU mounting placement and a roof mounted exhaust fan and went with the Hale82 as I assumed that the 120mm fan would be quieter than the 80mm fan in my Antec Neopower 650W – how wrong was I.

Basically I need to change the Hale82 for an alternative but I am a little apprehensive as I don’t want to spend £70+ and be in the exact same situation again as noise is very subjective (I would buy a Seasonic X series in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for the placement of the modular connectors). The alternatives that I know of and are compatible are (can’t be longer than 160mm and has to have modular connectors towards the fan):

Seasonic G series 650w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
Xigmatek Centauro 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply
Corsair HX 650W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply

Any comments on the above or any other recommendations would be appreciated!

Coil whine is new to me so I went and had a dig around the internet for details and a watched a couple of videos on Youtube. Now the noise the Hale82 makes is constant, uninterrupted and not as high pitched as the examples I found. It's more of an incessant din which leads me to believe it's fan noise.

Can I still RMA a PSU after modifying a modular connector during build to accommodate an additional drive? I naturally assumed not.

Regardless, I can't be without a PC for the life of an RMA process as I also use it for work. However, if I can still RMA the PSU I would likely do that upon sourcing a replacement and then sell it on.

From what I could find out the Seasonic M12II 650W has the same reference design as the NZXT Hale82. I also found a review comparing the noise of forty-two different power supplies >>here<<. As you can see from the chart the NZXT Hale82 and the M12II didn't fair too well.

The >>Antec HCG-620M<< seems like it could be a good buy if I can get away with just using the bottom row of modular connectors.

I actually find it strange as Seasonic are just known to be quality and don't skimp on components.

If its silence you are after, then The Seasonic X seies and Corsair AX series have a Hybrid fan control system that means they are passive upto a certain load, then start to spin up, then at another point, they spin up faster again.

Look into it,
