O/clocking 6300, Advise needed here.

Real numpty questions here but here goes, (I've been with amd for yonks now btw)
I'm getting the following:
6300, DS3 and I've ordered Geil pc6400, 800mhz DDR2.

First, I assume the memory speed at stock is 400mhz (800 divided by 2)?
6300 is 266mhz (1066 divided by 4, quad pumped an' all that).

Is this correct?
If so, then to overclock, I'd run the memory on a divider, overclock the fsb to bring the memory speed back up to stock, as you would with an amd system.
Or am I missing the plot completely? Its the size of the numbers that get me. :D

ANY advise would be appreciated here. Thanks.
 
If your ram is certified for PC5300(FSB 533) / PC6400(FSB 800) run a 1:1 divider. You'll only need the divider in place if your ram can't handle a 1:1 with the FSB.

That Geil ram will let you run 1:1 at 400FSB. Maybe..just maybe a bit more. :)

If your CPU / board can run at 400fsb without any problems,
Keep nudging up the fsb with the ram on a 1:1, then if it fails try slakening off the ram timings or upping the voltage a little on the ram to see if that will make it work.

Most posts I've seen so far seem to show the e6300 / 6400 cpu's doing VERY well with a high FSB o/c. Quite a few of us here are well over the FSB 450 mark. :)

Admittedly, most of the high o/c's I've seen are using GSkill 6400 HZ ram, so if you go for the Geil, you'll results may be lower.

Cheers for that mate, I was a little taken aback the numbers involved like I said. So whats the system fsb speed with these 6300s at stock, 266mhz?

yup, like all Core2Duo's. The Multi is the difference.

E6300 is 7x
E6400 is 8x
E66oo is 9x
E6700 is 10x
X6800 is 11x

:)
 
So if iwas to run an fsb of 400 i'd have an overclock of 2.8ghz, right? The 6300 should manage that at stock volts easily yes?

Stock, no don't think so. I'd need a bump I should think. Have a look see what other are doing.
