Has anyone got one of these things? A colleague of mine has asked me to look over their laptop because they're on the receiving end of a very intermittent service at best.

It's installed and working but according to some bandwidth tests its connection is between 50 and 300 kbps. At most times it's just like a 56k modem! This is costing her £20 a month! I can't believe how bad it is.

we use t-mobile dongles at work. speeds tests indicate around the same as a 1meg line.

what kind of reception is she getting ? GSM/3G/4G ?

GSM is normal phone reception and will be very slow for data speeds

We get this when people live in the remotest parts of the UK, can't get broadband and can just about get a phoen signal.....these devices don't really help them

I have a friend in Ireland who thought this was the solution to not being able to get broadband, but its not been good at all. I don't think she was 02....Orange IIRC.
When she first has it she could browse the web etc and the speed seemed fine, but within a few days that seemed to slow to dial up speeds or worse.

She had other problems with the dongle that was cured by using a long USB lead....it made her headset (wired) buz like mad.

She had a 2 week cooling off period, but decided to cancel it and it was just so bad :(

That's all o2 is good for at the moment. Although they are doing an upgrade in the near future.

Pc Pro did a test this month.
should have gone t-mobile. Tmobile and vodafone had the best connection whilst travelling on a Sussex to London train(ie less drop outs)

3 Network, max speed 2.6Mb/sec, average speed in London 1.6Mb/sec, average speed out of London 1.0 Mb/sec
Tmobile Max speed 2.1Mb/sec, Average speed in London 2Mb/sec, Average speed outside London 946kbps
Vodafone Max speed 1.9Mb/sec, Average speed in London 1.3Mb/sec, Average speed outside London 890kbps
Orange Max speed 1.2Mb/sec, Average speed in London 650kbps, Average speed outside London 320kbps
o2, Max speed 400kbps , average speed in London 318kbps, average speed outside London 348kbps

I did some promo stuff at uni for the 3 mobile version in belfast (yeah it actually worked there) but its terrible! we won one each for a years worth of the internet and i havnt used it, the transer speeds are pathetic unless you on the room of a 3rd story building (or in london). Plus the worst of it was 3 mobile conn you by haveing a "data allowance" not a download allowance

Im sure other services are better but its just not a good internet experence overall ( reminded me of being about 7 when my dad got a 28kbs connection to work from home back in the early 90s)
