Im in the process of changing my ISP form Orange.

I want ot move to the O2 20meg package which will cost me £15 a month as I have a phone contract with them. Donig my research I've found they own Be but whenever I read threads etc about O2 it turns into 'I use be and .....' I know that they are are both offering pretty much the same service but im guessing there may be some slight differences.

So I would like to hear from anyone that is currently using O2 and what you think of it am I making the right choice?

I have had a couple of issues recently due to the DNS problems but seems to be working fine now and prior to that I had no problems at all.

All of the accounts you read about Be's service should be applicable to O2's broadband, the main differences being that O2 and Be have separate support and the 'value added' services such as webmail etc. are hosted independently.

I've been using O2 broadband for a while and have had uninterrupted fast broadband, no complaints whatsoever.

Thanks guys,

Just waiting for my MAC code to arrive then I will be swapping. Cant wait for a nice fast connection im on 2meg at the moment and downloading is such a chore

Moving from Be to O2 and cutting my broadband bill to £7.50 a month (I only sync at 6.5mbps so there's no point going on anything faster than the 8mb ADSL2+ service). Whole process seems pretty smooth, although they want to swap my Speedtouch for an identical O2 branded one which seems like a waste of time and money. I use a DG834 anyway.

What is the router like? Im currently using a livebox, but have an old netgear lying about. Im thinking of selling it as somone I know wants a wireless network set up but if the O2 router is rubbish I better keep my netgear.

I just ordered my broadband as well. They are sending me a wireless box but I am not going to use it as I have a Netgear DG834G that has worked flawlessly for the last 2 years.

I found the supplied router a bit flaky so an still using my netgear which works without any problems. The supplied one is also not very configurable as everything is done via a very locked down GUI.

Nothing really wrong with the Speedtouch, there's just no easy way to set custom DNS servers (I like to use OpenDNS). Don't sell it though, Be/O2 want it back when you leave.

Congratulations, it took me about the same amount of time. Doesn't mean I don't prefer the Netgear though.

Took you 30 seconds too and that qualifies as "not easy" ?

What do you want? Blink your eyes and it does it all for you?

I think some people criticise the Speedtouch for the sake of criticising. It's much better than the 834GT I tried (I wanted to see what all the hype and fuss was about).

It was just one example of things that are plainly available through the web interface of most other routers which aren't on the BeBox. I didn't have any particular issues with the box, and it's great for a freebie, but I prefer the Netgear.
