Hello,

Just a quick question. I'm on the O2 Simplicity contract. I'm going abroad to Spain in a few weeks. I was just wondering do they charge their customers to use internet abroad? I wouldn't have thought so, but I just thought I would check as they charge for calls/texts.

Cheers.

It costs a bomb trust me.
I went to Cyprus for a week last year, and even with minimum web usage, like maybe a few minutes a day it still cost me £30 extra on that months contract.

I couldn't really find much on Google about it so I thought I would make a thread. I'm glad that I did now. It's saved me a few bob as I was going to use it now and again for light use!

Cheers lads. :D

EDIT:

Actually, did you have unlimited internet on your contract?

Cheers.

If you're unsure, give them a ring, that way you have a leg to stand on if you hear they don't so you use it abroad then have a five gazillion pound bill when you get home. If they tell you they don't charge then make a record of it and take them to the cleaners if they do.

Im a girl :p And I have the bolt on that I pay 6 quid a month for (which I always go over the cap for, but have never been charged) its because you are using the other carrier to access the web though. I do wonder though if they can charge you if you hijack someones wireless and connect it that way, but have never been anywhere abroad I could try this.

Wifi use abroad wouldn't incur a cost from O2. Not sure if there's any hookup with "The Cloud" outside the UK but if there is that might be a good option.

With regard to mobile data roaming O2 offer two bolt-on packages for this:

  • Data Abroad 10: £19.58 per month for 10MB of data
  • Data Abroad 50: £48.95 per month for 50MB of data

No idea if that can be added to a simplicity or whether you can cancel after a month, but I'd presume so. Not cheap tho

After looking at the prices above I think I will give web use abroad a miss! I was only going to use it to check emails and Facebook now and again.

Cheers for the help and info people :).

£3 per mb while in the EU
£6 per mb while outside of the EU

the above are the normal roaming rates if you dont have a roaming bolt on
