o2 isp and dot mac compatibility ???

I have o2 as my isp and also have a dot mac email account, i seem to be having problems sending emails using my dot mac account.
Is it possible it could be the o2 server having problems? Just more often than not, i can't send an email straight away with my mail app in leopard as it comes back saying unable to send - connection with the server stated as the problem.

Any idea's would be greatfully received.

Is you're ISP blocking port 25 outgoing connections (SMTP) which would prevent the mail client talking to the .Mac SMTP server?

The .Mac system could have an SMTP listener on a different port or you may need to use you're ISPs smtp server for outgoing mail.

I have not had any problems so far with O2 and my .mac account.
