Has anyone had any luck getting decent deals through O2 retentions recently. I've been hearing that they're pretty unhelpful these days.

My contract is up and I want to renegotiate, but just wondered whether I'd be wasting my time.

I know the obvious answer is phone them and see but I just wanted to know if anyone had any success stories.

Personally I've always had more success when I ask for my PAC to take my number elsewhere. You might not get any joy when you actually ask for it, but they are obliged to honour your request within two working days and I've often found the people who call me back from my provider with the PAC have more leeway to offer me a better deal. Perhaps it rams home the fact that you're seriously considering your options.

PACs are valid for a couple of weeks too I think, so you can get the code then assess your options and see what's about. Do you know what you want in terms of minutes/texts/internet? Do you want to change phones too?

yeah, I don't want anything silly like an iphone. I'd quite like the Nokia 6700. I was on a retention contract previously; Online30 (400mins 1000 texts) for £15 but it's just gone up to full price of £30 so I'd quite like something similar. I'd even be happy with half the minutes and half the texts.

All the contracts seem to be 18/24 months now too. What happened to the 12 month contracts.

When I ask for my PAC last time the guy was really helpful and told me to phone him back in 18months to negotiate something new. If I get my PAC am I not obliged to use it then? Can I just let it expire?

PAC codes last for thirty days and then expire, until you give it to a new network your current contract continues as normal. If the code expires then nothing happens and you remain on your current contract.

its all changed! as of this Saturday new taffifs came in and i never thought i would say it but .... O2 are now the most uncompetave off them all.

I have been with them for 7 years now and the best they could do is £42 p/m for the blackberry and £100 for the phone!

'3' are offering me phone for free and £30 p/m - Orange and voda pretty much the same!

gutted i loved o2!

tell me about it. i phoned o2 retentions yesterday and the best they could do was £37.50 a month for 600 minutes, unlimited texts but £100 for the Bold 9700. i requested my PAC code and the lady just gave it without trying to save my custom. i even explained that my business account is with them, with bills of nearly £60 a month, but she couldn't have cared less.

i've been with o2 for 8 years and it seems like they're happy to bleed customers. i'll be switching over to vodafone. oh well.

My wife called o2 to negotiate her contract, they did budge a little on the cost of the HTC HD2, she got them down to £75 for the phone and £30 month contract (Think they were looking £150 for the phone).

In the end she just got her pac number as you can get the phone for free on vodafone.
