o2 - SIM to Micro SIM wait time?

Just been given a Xperia S as a replacement for my HTC Sensation XE by o2.

I've just "swapped my sim" via the o2 website, however when plugging in the new SIM the phone still says "Insert SIM" etc.

And on my old SIM, I can't get any signal etc.

Is this normal, if so, how long should I have to wait?

Old one stopped instantly and new one after about an hour

Mine swapped over in less than 10 minutes

Many many many times.

Sometimes you may need to phone the provider to activate the sim, So I phone O2 to make sure.
