ok so im after a k800i silver on o2, but when i rang to upgrade i was told it would cost 130 quid, so im going to cancel and sign up again, however im already on an online plan and want to go onto another online plan, however i read on here you can pac your number from 1 online to another online plan in o2, so my question is can i buy a cheap payg sim on ebay, pac it to that, then pac it on to my new o2 online plan?? or is there a time restriction on how soon you can pac a number

any help *** be great, cheers

I asked several days ago if this was possible but got no reply but I did read a while back that one guy got around it by getting his pac to an orange payg sim and then transfered back to O2.

You are better to transfer to another operator other than O2 as you may have problems. For example, if you went to O2 PAYG, O2 Online might reject you because you are going from O2 to O2 which is not possible.

However I still can't confirm if the above is still possible and since I never got an answer, I just talk and talked on the phone to O2 Online retentions and they gave me the N73 for free cause I jumped up to a £30 tariff which I was going to anyhow.

You cannot use a PAC code to move a number from one contract to another with the same operator.
So you cannot request a PAC code from O2 online, cancel contract and then get another O2 online contract and use the PAC code - it will be rejected.
You can of course take your O2 online PAC code to another operator, say Orange, put it on PAYG and then move that back to O2.
It's not exactly encouraged and of course it will take time to process.

With O2 online and in-store are actually classed as two different operators.
So you can use an O2 online PAC to take a number to an O2 in store contract and vice versa.
However in-store prices are different to online prices and no they won't match the same deals you can get online as they are classed as two seperate companies/operators.

i threatened to leave to go back to vodafone (from o2) and they couldnt of been nicer, matched the deal with vodafone gave me free insurance for a year and the k800i

i was paying out fifty odd quid a month for the year before (although i did get about £180 in cash back overall last year).. i now only pay 30 and have a better spread of free mins and texts

its all about playing the companies off against each other and be a bit flexible with the truth ;)

I thought that was the case until I phoned quite a few big name phone dealers and they all told me that it was not possible. I explained the case and they checked with their managment people but were told that it was not allowed.

I spoke to quite a few and I was rejected. They all ended up with the same reason; doesn't matter if they are different operators, they are both on the O2 network and you cannot go from O2 to O2.

If it is possible then I'd like to know who does it?

I didn't actually do it - I was an O2 online customer and I wanted the K800i in Silver.
£130 for the upgrade to which I said no.
I went into an O2 shop and it was actually going to be just as expensive as you cannot get the cheapest £19 tarrif in the stores.
So in the end I cancelled and took my PAC code to Orange where I got my K800i in black for £0 on their £19 per month tarrif instead.

However, when I went into the O2 store I spoke about using PAC codes and said it would be an O2 online code and I was told that wouldn't be a problem.
Now if it would have been I'll never know, but the O2 shop didn't seem to think it would be an issue.

Of course they will offer you a deal when you're forking out that amount of money each month.
As has been said numerous times - a network will only fight to keep somebody who will make a profit.
Be spending £20 per month and never be going over your monthly allowance and then try the same threat.
You'll be asked how you would like your PAC code, text or post.

Also remember that more free minutes and texts effectively doesn't cost the network anything.
Time and time again we see people post how they have threatened to leave and how the network threw double minutes and text at that person and what a wonderful deal they got...
Wonderful if they are and were using that amount of minutes and texts.
To many it's an empty gesture that looks great on paper but doesn't really give you anything.

If your only spending £20 a month and never going over you monthly allowance why bother with a contract phone?

Your expecting big name phone dealers to know there stuff. I can tell you that they don't.
I've done this before several times for customers while I was at the Link. One of my friends ported from O2 Online to O2 high street last month. Only O2 allow this now. You can also go to CPW and port to them from O2 online.

The problem I had was they told me that if I got my PAC from O2 Online, they wouldn't be able to complete the deal of a new O2 contract.

CPW was one of the places I tried and they stood by their NO answer even thoug I made them go and equire. I didn't push them argue with them as much as I could have cause their deals were rubbish. Wasn't worth leaving online to go to offline with them.
