O2 Wireless Box - Can't ping over the net

I noticed recently that I'm unable to ping my router (thompson o2 wireless box) over the net. I noticed when I was trying to get RDP working, when I tried to connect from my mums house (just an example) the connection times out.

Now I know the problem isn't to do with RDP as I can't even ping my ip address at all when I'm away from home and I definitley have the right address.

Just as another example, when I am at home I could try pinging myself from http://network-tools.com/ and it would time out too.

So has anyone got any thoughts on what the solution could be?

My Router (Linksys WAG354G) has an option called:

Block WAN Request - By enabling the Block WAN Request feature, you can prevent your network from being "pinged," or detected, by other Internet users.

Just another security measure, but your router could be doing the same thing.

Regards

The Bebox doesn't answer to ICMP echo requests by default, so I'd expect the O2 box is set up exactly the same.

Yeah I since found this out, thanks to Wicksta. Scoured the CLI reference manual and found the correct command to disable that feature.

Will test it out tonight.

Cheers guys.
