Did you get rid of the O2 rubbish ?? , mine is pretty fast without it.

Yes i did, but it goes from being absolutely unusable to just "quite slow". Its a 166mhz processor or something after all, running WM2005

Overall its an amazing phone, but i am going to hold off buying anything like this in the future until the technology gets good enough to offer proper performance in this size of package. :)

What's it like running Tomtom , is it just slow to calculate the route or does it lag behind when you turn at junctions etc ?? .

It copes, just, with normal navigation. (Tomtom5)

Its very slow to first launch, very slow to calculate (which can be annoying when in busy cities and youve missed a turn), and it doesnt cope with showing POI's onscreen too well.

I just got a separate PDA for tomtom, works a lot better.

Tomtom navigator 5 does indeed run "fine", however it runs very slowly, inline with the slow processor.

Not trying to knock the phone as such, its a superb idea, just trying to avoid an dissapointment.

Just do a hard reset, select corporate mode and enter the code 0506 makes o2 pdas much faster. Its a 200mhz cpu btw ;) Iam suprised that a new pda would be supplied with a cpu as slow as that, they all seem to have 520mhz and 624mhz nowadays.

Thanks , thats the sort of info I'm after . Its whether to buy a dedicated GPS unit or get TomTom + GPS module for the XDA , is it slow enough to be worth an extra £100 and something else to carry :)

Mine was running in corporate mode since the start, in the normal mode its too slow to do anything on really. My mistake about the cpu, 200mhz is still very very slow though and explains the poor performance.

I would buy one with the aim to sell after a play, its a good little toy to use for a month or two but i wouldnt take it any further than that. They sell for £300 on ebay so you cant lose with what o2 are offering them for at the moment.

As for tomtom, i would go for a separate unit every time. The mini just doesnt have the performance to match a PDA or a dedicated unit and makes for an unpleasant experience in places like central london where its sitting there slowly recalculating. Plus i always think its nice to have your tomtom and phone separate so that they can be used at the same time.

Now i dont know what to do... i wont be using it for navigation or anything just texting and e-mails. messenger video's and pics and so fourth... it should cope with this shouldnt it?

or am i better off waiting for a better one? one with more CPU power?

Can you get this XDA on Pay as you go? also how much would I expect to pay for this if it is on pay as you go?
