I know that blaming video games for gun/knife crime is nothing new but it just makes me so angry that it has become just too easy to blame gun crime on video games when in actual fact nothing could be further from the truth.

Noel Gallagher from Oasis also supports that video games are partly to blame for the increase in gun crime.

I find it disappointing that they just blame it on the games. I enjoy video games including shooters, rpg, etc but I can tell the difference between a game and real life. I have never walked the streets with a knife/gun or even thought about using one.

You could just has easily blame movies, tv shows and even music lyrics but I don't think any of them are to blame because any sane person should be able to tell the difference between fiction and reality.

Just my 2 cents.

I think the media and western culture in general contribute to street crime massively, I dont bileave video games play a large part, but howerver just because they dont affect you, dosent mean they wont affect some kid somewhere, thats a poor argument.

I understand what you are saying but just because it may effect a kid somwhere that should be able to tell the difference. We should what ban all games, movies, music and television. Because that's what would have to happen if we censored everything just because it might affect somebody who should know better.

I do agree with age certificates and I think that is all that needs doing, sadly though they are ignored by most people.

I go out Friday evenings mowing people down with my uzi GTA style because I have nothing better do.

Then I relax listening to Wonderwall.

Yea, I'm starting to really dislike Noel now, he's coming an saying quite a lot of crap (not that anything has ever stopped him).

It's quite blatently obvious that knife and gun crime in this country has absolutely nothing to do with video games. Kids growing up around gang culture, weapons, crime, drugs, inequality, poverty, bad parenting and education...etc, those are the causes.

No im saying just because it dosent affect you, dosent mean it cant affect anyone else, maybe in large numbers, howerver id never support the banning of things because 1/100,000 kids decides to stab someone or run riot with a gun.

Agreed.

I also except that comments from Oasis should be taken with a large pinch of salt but more and more famous and influential people seem to jump on the bandwagon of blaming video games and if you throw enough mud some will stick.

It would be really nice for somebody with some authority to stand up and say video games are not to blame and lets look closer to home and sort the problem out by making sure that kids don't grow up in a community where they have poor education, lack of respect for themselves or others, and think the only way to be excepted is to participate within gang culture.

Yeah its just the media is so messed up in general, parents are too scared to let their kids out of sight nowadays because of the media, people are scared to go out case they get stabbed, global warming, food concerns, looks like video games are next, wont be surprised if some new law comes in to ban them to some degree

i myself blame the Rap music industry more so for street crime in young children than the video game industry, but thats just me :( sad state of affairs when we have idiots like oasis blaming the gaming industry for violence after there background record isnt as clean as they would think it is as am sure they where playing computer games before they went out to beat up photographers that got in there faces to much

Oasis are just a bunch of has-beens who will say anything (mostly nothing) for a scrap of media coverage.

Tell you, wont be long now before we see them desperately trying to resurrect their careers by appearing on I'm a Celebrity or Strictly Come Dancing

we had a similar arguement the other day in the pub. My one point that stopped it dead is that gaming can't increase gun crime due to the fact that gamers will be at home playing games not on the street with nothing to do causing trouble!
