Somewhere in the middle.
Ive just been listening to Oasis on MTV unplugged and Dont Look Back in Anger had hairs standing up on my neck.

Got me thinking, I know Oasis didnt crack America or anything but in my eyes they are one of the best bands to ever come out of England.

Maybe its the generation Im from, but I absolutely adore almost everything about them. I know some of their stuff wasnt nearly as good as others, but they were certainly pretty consistent.

And I dont think Liam is a git either, I think characters like him are great in music :)

How do you rate them?

They were an extremely good band, far better (in my opinion) than their main rivals Blur during the 90s. "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" has to be almost my favourite album ever...

I feel this will be a common reply but here goes.

Two maybe three great albums and the rest of them total dross. This coming from some one that went to the effort to see them live.

Dunno, Little by little is in my top 3 oasis songs (along with don't look back in anger and WTSMG).

Fantastic, love them. Dig Out Your Soul is a very good album after a few listens, imho.

the first album was groundbreaking. supersonic and slide away are sublime pieces of music
what's the story is an amazing album. some might say and hey now are incredible songs.

they should have quit after those two albums, then they would have been remembered for this music rather than the mess they became. they lost their identity, tried to take on the world and progressed in the wrong direction.

They are culturally important for Britain, I don't think there's any denying that. Their music inspired more people in the UK to pick up a guitar and form a band than Nirvana ever did.

Do I think they made good music? Aside from the odd song, no.

Does that matter? Probably not. Despite anyone's thoughts on them their legacy is insurmountable when compared to any British band in the past 25 years. Without them there's a good chance many bands British rock bands that are popular now in the UK wouldn't be.

I dislike pretty much 99% of their music. It just doesn't appeal to me in any way. I don't think they're a very good band and I feel that Noel Gallagher is overrated in every sense of the word but to write off their legacy would be disingenuous. They're vital to British rock music despite my opinion on their actual music.

Urgh, over rated and over played.

Maybe liked them a smidge when i very first started playing guitar (Wonderwall lol) but i came to sense and realised that they just, i dunno, just not for me tbh!

What's the Story is one of the few albums where nigh on every track could have been a single for most bands, too.

I am so disappointed I never got to see them live, even if Liam's voice is shot (although he was sounding better during their last tour from the videos I've watched)

I love a lot of their stuff from the early days. Great times, partly because of the memories it brings back of very good times in my life.

I know what you mean about hairs standing up. For some of their songs I can hear the first bars and it takes me right back. Great times. It's more about the memories that it invokes though.
