Oblivion and 1900xt question

Install the Chuck patch then enable antialiasing in the Catalyst Control Panel (or in ATi Tray Tools.) Make sure Catalyst A.I. is enabled, and that antialiasing is set to "off" in Oblivion, too.

So.....when I installed 6.4 the 'Chuck' patch installation warned that some newer files were about to be overwritten......should I let it do it's thing - thought I read somewhere that the patch was really aimed at 6.3 drivers....

Yes, let it do it's thing.

The Chuck patch is basically a hacked 6.3 driver. The message "newer file about to be overwritten" is becouse your currently running cat 6.4's=newer:)

It also says the same thing when you install over the 6.3's aswell, so some of the files are older than that even.

Splendid....but - silly question - are there any notable improvements in 6.4 that I would then be missing out on ? I mean, what does 6.4 offer over 6.3......sorry, ATI noobie........have had nVidia for years......

Letting it overwrite files, or clicking no to all, seems to make no difference. HDR+AA still works just as well with either method and it also doesn't matter if you use 6.3 or 6.4 Catalysts.

OK, so how will I know that 'it worked'.....(apart from an educated guess by looking at screen  and a performance hit  )...I mean, Oblivion's options will still show no AA

You have to have antialiasing set to "off" in Oblivion, and set to whatever you want to use in Catalyst Control Centre or ATi Tray Tools. You'll notice if it's working easily just by looking at it.

If you can't see any difference visually, then why suffer a performance hit for nothing?

You should be able to spot the difference easily. 2xAA gets rid of the jaggies on my 6800U (playing @ 1024x768). If you play at 1600x1200 or higher, jaggies are less noticeable so AA may not be worth it.

Have you set grass, trees and shadows to max? That really makes the lush woodlands come alive.

Only just begun the game, just got out of the Sewers and to the big outside :) haven't really tweaked around with the settings yet.....need to establish what works well - have read that some specific areas (Anandtech : Oblivion gate, with lots of enemies) are extra taxing.....so don't want to get a sudden fps hit in a firefight !
