Hello,

I thought I'd do a re-run through Oblivion as I've got nothing else to do and I'm just wondering what the best class to play is for overall killing power :)

I've played through most of it before but just never found the perfect class.

What were your favourites and why?

(I did a search for Oblivion threads but it didn't give me anything)

Not sure what the best class for overall killing power is but, I enjoyed playing Assassin type class :D the assassin/thief guilds quest were great fun

Battlemage. Assassins is tedious. 'Oh no, they've seen you, quick reload!' type thing.

The thief guild isn't to bad, but it was easily possible to do it as a Battlemage.

I played a full all out mage. Some of the spells you can get as a mage are really fun, and I seemed to have a hell of a lot of killing power towards the end. Killing things is a little tedious though, you essentially just run at them and spam C.

The mage guilds quests are pretty fun. The thieves guild ones I didn't have too much of a problem with. I didn't try the assassins stuff as it didn't really fit my character :(

Assassin sounds fairly fun but I never tried that class. Personally, I'd recommend grabbing a mod that lets you skip the opening part and try a few different classes until you find one you like.

Thanks for all of the replies :)

I've looked around a bit on google as well and I've chosen to try a mage and so far it seems pretty good, enough killing power so far.

I'm guessing there is patches (updates) for the game?

Steamworks game isn't it so should be upto date.

Oblivion isn't Steamworks, and there are many patches for it. A dedicated modding thread exists somewhere on this forum, which is worth checking out - I normally prefer to stay away from teh overhaul mods or others that change gameplay too drastically, but the odd tweak here and tehre makes the game much more enjoyable and the enhanced textures/scenery/foliage etc stop it from looking too dated.

Yup, there are several mods/patches, some of which I would go as far to say are essential.

Make sure to get the Unofficial Oblivion Patches, basically. They fix loads of bugs with the game. Pretty much essential. Link here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes4Mod:Unofficial_Oblivion_Patch

But...
Take a look here, this shows quite a lot of mods, many of which improve the game a ton (mainly stopping it look as dated as it does): http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18247684&highlight=oblivion

I love going caster in this game stupidly OP at later levels. I don't like rebalanced mods tend to make the game more unstable than it already is.

Depends on what you like really. As many others have said I'm a fan of the thief/assassin style gameplay.

That said though I do also love the Sword and Board warrior style approach.

In Oblivion I just went heavy armour/big sword with a smattering of magic. Some might call it a battlemage, but I went for more restorative/stat boosting spells, so possibly more Cleric/Paladin style.
