Right, I have a week off next week and plan to finally get into Oblivion.

The missus has been warned and the computer chair has been serviced for ultra comfortability.

What are the essential mods I need? I've had a look and there are so many, I thought I'd ask the opinion of the educated....

Thanks. :D

Personally if you havn't played it before I would try vanilla first then go for a mod.

Or just get OOO(somebodies oblivion overhaul). I've not really used any other mods myself, others will educate. :)

Oblivion Mods

Well I've heard there are a few must have mods for graphics & menus etc.

These are the ones I'm after really but there are quite a few to choose from!

There's a one that stops guards from chasing you for 983475893745983458 miles, can't remember the name of it though but it was essential for me (possibly "No Psychic Guards")

Other than the graphics ones, this is the only gameplay-changing one I would use first time through, as the thief/assassin type character is basically broken without it.

I think the best thing to do is play it through vanilla first time round. that way you get to see the unmodified world, and see if there's any parts of the game you think need improving. there's likely be be mods out there that do it.

well i hope you enjoy it me myself found it one of the most borinng games ive ever played . i actually chucked it in the bin after playing.

there are loads of mods but like most have said play through normal first.

I'd recommend a playthrough on vanilla first, or even part play-through, until you realise if you've made some mistakes in character creation etc.

Don't forget theres a comprehensive difficulty slider which alters an .ini files between 1 and 100, so try that out, and increase it a bit if you find you're killing everything in 1 hit like I did!

Also, in vanilla, archery is pretty weak - so if you like that kinda thing, look up Eric's quad damage for archers (also has a mode for 2x and 3x damage)

Oh, and if you're feeling Middle Earthy, there's a set of armour that you can wear to look like Sauron, including the One Ring :p

I think im going to play this again after ive finished with risen. Have they extended teh thieves quest line since vanilla?

Quarls Texture Pack 3 Reduced and Optimised (AKA Quarls Texture Pack 3 Redimised)

This overhauls the terrain and building graphics.

Don't get any gameplay changing mods, first play the game a bit and see if you like that style, because most of the gameplay changing mods, basically turn it into another game.

You can get things like facial texture upgrades and so on.

Best thing is to look this this link:

http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/obliviontextureoverhaul.html

And see which texture upgrades you want to add, then play the game, see if you like the vanilla oblivion gameplay style and if you dont, then look into things like FCOM and OOO.
