Hey :) Ive been playing oblivion on and off for around 2 years now. (i normally end up getting to around level 17 and reroling or quit playing it) Anyway this time ive stuck out and got to level 23 as a Warlock. Ive maxed out destruction and conjurer along with willpower and intellegence both at 100. ... now what? :( I cant seem to level anymoe unless i TRY (e.g stand there getting hit while i heal my self trying to level up rest and light armor. Which ireally dont enjoy as much as leveling as you do quests/roaming) Ive maxed out my mana at 400ish so i cant really use any new spells etc... Ive only done a hand full of quests,Mage guild quest line and the main story :/ Ive not even got onto the addon packs yet :(
Am i missing something? or do i just do random quests now without leveling or using new spells?:(

I started playing this recently, and I'm quite enjoying it but I just wish the cities were bigger as I prefer that type of setting.

OP you could try installing some mods for new spells? I know there are tons of them. On this topic does anyone know any mods that actually extend the size of the cities? I had a look but couldn't see anything :(

To level up overall you have to level up your major skills. I dunno what major skills this 'warlock' class has, but for rest just use a low powered heal spell so you use it more. And yes do minor quests! the Deadric shrines quest always give great loot. I'm lvl a lvl 27 mage but now I'm switching to armour and swords using the same character, because I'm bored of just conjuring and zapping. Change your combat style and concentrate on getting the most awesome set of enchanted items.

Also go for a wander on foot, especially off the beaten track like the eastern side of the map. See the coast! Climb the mountains! Don't forget to save or you'll lose all your mapmarkers when a mountain lion kills you! I try beating various creatures to death with just my fists. It levels up hand to hand pretty quickly!

It's a good game but it has literally the worst levelling system out of any RPG I have, and probably ever will play ever. I despised having the do the same thing over and over to level a skill I don't even need just so I can level my character efficiently.

Try installing Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul - it'll take you an AWFUL lot longer to level up to 17, let alone 23 - so think carefully on character type.

Then play through and do all the things you haven't done before, or by using a totally different character style.

I've had an elf bow marksman, a heavy human knight, an armoured spellcaster and for a laugh, and Orc class. (Good fun in melee but gets annoying, as you never can catch anyone!)

Don't forget the Knights of the Nine mod, and Shivering Isles, and the countless community made free mods you can add into it.

Should be good for many an hour yet ;)

I think you just need to detach yourself from the whole 'grind' of trying to level up - the beauty of games like this is the journey, not the destination. As mentioned maybe try a new combat style too, just because you are a Warlock doesn't mean to say that you shouldn't be pretty handy with a dagger too :)

Also maybe look at leveling up some of your less frequently used major skills if you are obsessed with getting your main level up. I know you don't enjoy standing there getting hit (neither do I!) but for light armour you should be able to level that a bit by playing melee style, you'll take a few hits along the way.

The Oblivion levelling system definitely takes some getting used to and it is one of the only RPGs I've played where there is often no (character-based) reward for completing quests - often you just get money or an item as opposed to new skills or the more traditional XP. This means that you are actively encouraged to do 'lame' things like randomly jumping about the place, standing there and letting people hit you, standing there constantly blocking attacks, making loads of useless potions etc.

Anyway the bottomline is that if you don't enjoy just 'doing random quests' then it probably isn't the game for you.

Since the OP is struggling to level now, what on earth use is a mod which makes it harder?

As for the original question: since the monsters level with you, and since at level 23 you have all the monsters you will ever get, don't worry about it. As several people have said, play it as you want to.

Get OblivionXP leveling system. You level up based on things that you do, meaning you don't have to stand there getting hit millions of times to level up Heavy Armour.

Get Midas Spell mod.

Get Deadly Reflex mod.

And FCOM COnvergence :)

2 years play out of a game is pretty good going.

i've been playing oblivion on and off since it launched on both the pc and 360.

i think it's about how you play the game, i tend to always end up getting distracted after few weeks of playing and whenever i come back to it i create a new character and play it a different way, playing as a high elf and using lots of magic or creating an ork warrior gives it a very different feel and you need different strategies.

as has been said, don't really worry about what level you are, this isn't warcraft, once you get some way in you can access pretty much any spell in some form or another, as you progress you'll get the stronger variations and is something nice to aim for but for me exploring the open areas and just raiding some forts, caves and mines are my favourite. still find places i've never visited before even after all this time.

have heard a lot of people talk about being turned into a vampire and only going out after dark and playing as a quite evil character, or using sneak and bow skills with potions to play a thief type character. this game really is what you make of it. i heartily recommend the knights of the nine add on too, good quest and you get some great kit to boot.

wow thanks for the amount of replys :D
First of all Im also a wow addict -_- so im obsessed with leveling lol but only cause i want to get better spells (ones that do more damage) I have quite a few mods allready Including Midas and the one that adds harder monstors (but i couldnt stand that one tbh)

I do enjoy the game LOADS but mostly for the combat system! :( It really allows you to get into the char uve made! Before the lock i had a Theif hunter, A warrior and... a mage... who i put all the points into str.. (it was my first char and i didnt understand the game :P ) I guess ill keep going for a bit longer as the warlock (p.s my Majors are, conjur dest(them two i focued the most on) alteration, Mst, rest,Light armor) and Illusion.

Oh well :) I guess ill have to either reroll or just turn the game's difficulty setting up so it makes the game more challengeing :D

P.s also to the guy that said make your own spells :( i have... but if i make them ANY stronger ill run out of Mana after 3 shots -_- :( thanks for all your replys :D

yeah u can also turn into a werewolf,it supposed to be pretty good mod.

Leveling up Light armour is the most annoying. With skills like myst and illusion you can just cast detect life and light as you run around.

At least you don't have mercantile as a mjor skill like I do. Selling arrows individually is a right pain in the arse.
I'm 100 on destr, conj, myst and illus, but 55 at mercant :(
I'm running OOO which was tough to start with but I'm bascially invincible now so leveling is not important. I'm also the arch-mage but I cannot sack anyone:(

Knights of the nine is indeed ace. Shivering isles is also massive but I've only just got onto the isle so don't know if it's fun or not.
