d/l loads of typical mods and installed them, they do amazingly make a huge difference.

anyway, a few of them dont seem to install properly?

e.g i got the new colour map where the instructions say just put the files in the textures folder. there is no need for a .esp file

did that and nothing changes?

am I doing something wrong somewhere?

this may or may not have occurred with some other mods as well, where it says just put in the new files in the textures folder.

I did find it odd that my clean install of oblivion, I dont think I saw a default textures folder anyway. the folder was created when I installed the Obscura Overhaul mod i think.

also anyone recommend a good mod to change the leveling up process?

I was looking at the AF level mod, but uninstalling is apparently an big pain (have to reinstall oblivion!)

Try the Oblivion Mod Manager. Just run a google search for it, quite easy to find. Itll help sort your mod files and it can make the loading process a lot easier.

Hope that helps.

As for the levels mod, generally people on the Bethesda Oblivion forums talk about Oscuros Oblivion overhaul, but as I havnt been on there in several months I dont know if any better mods have been released.

Could not get the colour map mod to work as well. So far managed to get all my other mods to work o.k. does make the game a lot better.

You should try Martigen's Monster Mod (MMM) or Francesco's Leveled Creatures, both are very good.

i found out why the map mod doesnt work.

"Attention: All the above mods will stop working after installing the 1.4 beta patch. To fix them, you have to change the creation date on all mod files to a later (e.g. today's) date or add their location to the "ArchiveInvalidation.txt"-File in your Oblivion-Folder (not the Data-Folder), using relative Paths from the Data-Directory and Slashes instead of Backslashes ("c:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\textures\menus50\map\world\cyrodiil_resized.dds" would become "Textures/Menus50/Map/World/Cyrodiil_Resized.dds", without quotation-marks). "

havent tested it yet.

theres a program i saw that updates all the dates somewhere, i forgot where i found it. its bookmark on my home PC. still at work at the moment.

sorry regarding leveling I meant the way your character levels up since i hate the stupid up major skills and your attribute bonuses depend on it. since i find you have to micromanage your character more to ensure you dont end up with a gimp. to me that takes away from the gameplay.
nice idea but flawed implementation in my mind.

achitopel - Wikipedia, I found that very useful theres alist of recommended mods, also tweakguides serach oblivion i foudn taht useful as well.
