So I played Oblivion some time back on PC and had the hardware to run it maxed out. Now I am tempted to play it again, but this means either buying a GPU (only have 7300le) or getting it on PS3/360, though more likely PS3.

Thing is, even though it's been a while since I played it on PC, am I likely to notice a major difference in how good/poor the game looks in comparison to the PC?

To my eyes, there is no difference apart from maybe a few hiccups in the console frame rate now and again. But without all the fancy mods, the PC version is practically identical in looks.

with a little weaking the PC version looks many time better than the console version.

If you have to get the console version, PS3>360

The reason I'd prefer the 360 version over the PS3 is

- more DLC
- rumble
- achievements
- big bug in the PS3 GotY edition if you become a vampire (obviously avoided if you don't want to become a vampire and keep several save games)

Pretty much the main reason you should be opting for the 360 version. You can avoid the PS3 bug by just getting a non-GOTY edition of the game but that's just silly when you miss out on so much from the expansions that come with the GOTY version.

I have the GOTY PS3 edition and I got 'bitten' by that vampire bug just a minor hassle... it shouldnt happen thats for sure. Basically healer doesnt accept bloodgrass when you try to hand it to her. You have to set the PS3 language to german and then choose bloodgrass (but this will be the german name for it) and she takes it, reset language to english and away you go. I did the closing of gates and knights of the nine I'm currently sat at the shivering isle starting point but not touched it in a couple of months.

Oblivion is one game I would say that considerably benefits from being on the PC, never seen a game with such a large amount of addons.

But the PS3 version is fine out of the box.

Yeah, I tried a number of mods back when I was playing it.

Problem with me an PC gaming is I then start spending more time messing about with add-ons, tweaking the game, trying to squeeze more performance while being determined to keep every setting on max, that I always lose site of just having fun with games.

It's why I try to avoid the temptation of getting my pc gaming capable again - a battle I have just gotten myself through once more, with the cursor on the screen having spent much time hovering over the buy button.

I make it sound like and addiction, and for me it kinda was. Consoles I just put the game in and theres nowt I can do but play the game :)

Hahaha, that actually reminds me.

I've got the PC and 360 versions of Oblivion. The 360 one I've completed, the PC one I've never done a single thing except install add ons and tweak the game :p

It's so true.
