Oblivion Questions...

I'm about to get a copy of Oblivion, and have a few simple questions.

Firstly, are there any good mods/patches that enhance the game?

Are the expansion packs worthwhile?

And finally, my PC spec is as follows:

E6850 @ stock (3ghz)
8800GT 512mb
4GB PC6400

What kind of detail settings can I expect to run smoothly, say ~ 35fps at 1680 x 1050?

From what I've heard, it's similar in style to STALKER, in that it's a bit of an RPG/FPS, so hopefully I'll enjoy it muchly. One of my colleagues is constantly barking on about how awesome it is (except last night when his GF confiscated it!).

You'll be able to max your settings without stuttering if you follow the tweak guide for the .ini file. The most important being how many external cells are loaded at once and the multithreading goodness.

I'd recommend playing it at least once without heavily modifying the game mechanics, so that if you like the game overall, then you'll want to replay it and find quests you missed the first time through, and also to give you a better understanding of why so many people complain that the levelling is "broken" - per se.

Also, read up a fair bit before you create your first character, and work out what you'll want them to be able to do - i.e. big heavy armoured warrior, or lightweight mage, or thief etc?
 
I put in about 80 hours and still never finished the vanilla version. Im instead gonna wait until pachrads mod is at its final version and play that.
