I just bought the Steam version of the game and I have been having an issue with the sound in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion.
The nature of the issue is somewhat difficult to explain. It seems that whenever I cast a spell (most notably any healing spells) and also steps make a sound that seems to be echoing over and over again about 5 to 7 times in rapid succession.
The echo is not really a good way of describing it as it just simply sounds as if the sound was played 5 times. It seems that the weird sound intensifies as I am moving as opposed to when I stand still. In fact sounds are perfectly normal when I'm not moving. What may be causing that?
I tried to find the issue but no one else seems to be having it, any suggestions would be highly appreciated as the sound effects are shattering the atmosphere.
Reinstalling the game doesn't help. I tried pretty much every setting in the sound settings of my sound card but nothing seems to help.
EDIT:
I found some threads about this issue which pointed to the Audio Hardware Acceleration causing the problem.
Thing is, you can't switch it off on Windows 7.... does that mean the game is basically unplayable for me? Not very good news there....
