My specs are:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.4ghz
GTX 460 768mb OC'd to 865 core, 2033 memory.
4GB DDR3 ram
Win 7

Anyway, In oblivion, I get unbearable lag while in cities that have NPC's walking around etc on Ultra settings, whereas on open ground I get 100 FPS + without a problem, but when theres like 5 people it drops to 30 or so.

I know Oblivion's engine is pretty crap, but thats just a joke. as you see my system should have no problems running it whatsoever. V.sync is not turned on.

Whats wrong ??

IIRC theres something in the oblivion ini you need to tweak to stop this but its been a long time since I played with oblivion.

Fixed that uninstall prob, cheers.

Rroff thanks for the tip, could you hint where I should look for this tweak? Im really hopeless about that FPS drop

Also if anybody has ever used this tweak but cant find it specifically on your .ini file, could you simply host the ini file on Rapidshare or so that I could download it and replace it ?
Would be nice

No point using a quad-core with Oblivion if you haven't enabled all the multi-threading options in the ini.

Find Oblivion.ini somewhere in your documents folder.
Make the following changes.

bUseThreadedBlood=1
bUseThreadedMorpher=1
bUseThreadedTempEffects=1
bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1
bUseMultiThreadedTrees=1
bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1
iNumHavokThreads=5
iThreads=9
iOpenMPLevel=10

Of course, do this after applying patches.

Is that correct for a Q6600?

Because i've not done that, never known you needed to.

iNumHavokThreads=5
iThreads=9

The above settings may differ slightly depending on how many cores you have, but just google it, there's tons of info out there.

I read that those ini tweaks above didn't really do a great deal for quads it was a placebo

If i was you i'd use OblivionStutter remover, as it has some nice smoothing tweaks to go with it:D

I'll probably search for that :p

My game is fine in general, it just stutters when moving around the countryside fast.

That's something that oblivion stutter remover really helps with, to be honest if i ever play oblivion or fallout 3/vegas the stutter remover is the only mod at the top of my list. It doesn't just stop a lot of the stutter but it helps with frame rates aswell

I doubt stutter remover will help, its not slight stuttering, its propper FPS lag, 25-30 FPS down from 100. That is a HUGE hit.

Will try that tweak mentioned above

Installing OBSE and Stutter remover, plus adding the .ini tweaks, made the game lag more.

Edit: Deleting the .ini tweaks someone above suggested stopped the lag, bringing me to the situation I was in before. Stutter remover didnt help much. game is patched
