Right got Oblivions yesterday and am quite enjoying it but anyone got any tips for me ?

Seem to be stuggling with regaining health ive closed an oblivion gate looking for martin i think it is and am now in the town behind the kate but keep getting raped by the scamps on the way to the castle.

Any places i should visit or things i should do ?
 
Dont fast travel, walk there!

Takes more time, but you find more stuff on the map, and some rare plants, especially Ninroots, collect them when you find them :)

Try tinkering with potions early on, they are good to sell and make money.

Take a look at your main skills and try to increase them, so if Blunt is a major skill, get a mace or club and use that on some enemies, instead of using a big chopper ;)

Don't, as another person said, do the main quest straight away, maybe do the first couple to find your feet, then do the side quests.

Talk to nearly everyone, you will get new side quests.

Save regularly, especially when attempting to pick a lock ;)

Try joining the mages guild fairly soon, as you can go to a place there and enchant items, like adding feather to a helmet or amulet, making you able to carry more

Save regularly :)

Once you are a member of a guild, you don't have to pay for accomodation at Inns, you can sleep in the guilds.

Take Martin to where he is needed, ignoring the siege of Kvatch (?) for the time being. By taking Martin with you you get given a nice set of armour and weapon to start you off.

As others have said, join the Fighters and Mages Guilds as well as random side quests till you have built up you levels a bit. For the best weapons and armour you are best to find caves and ruins, shops just sell the plain stuff.

Don't go killing random people as it can come back and bite you later on if you are not careful.
 
Help i stole some armour and a weapon and now i can't go anywhere without getting arrested
 
^Your bounty is the problem, you have to be sly lol. But just get arrested and pay the gold so much easier. Otherwise if your in the theivs guild then you get a discount.
 
my bounty is like 1000g and i only have 228 i cant get to a shop to sell my stuff i dont think
 
Any shops near the cloud temple place not in towns since i can';t seem to go to a town without getting raped don't really wanna lose my stolen stuff
 
Ok, a bit of an explanation before i give you my best tip.

You level up by increasing your "major skills". However, when you level up so do all the baddies, so it's not necessarilly a good thing.

Ok, my tip is: choose a character (or make one yourself) that doesn't have magic or fighting as a major skill. These are probably your most important skills, so by doing this you'll be able to get them up to a high level without leveling up the baddies at the same time, which in turn makes combat far easier!
 
i chose a warrior and the bar that says time till level or similar is full but im stil level 1

next time you go to sleep you will level up.

And heres and Oblivion Tip for you all, read the manual, its actually a really good source of information unlike most gaming manuals.
 
i've got to the bit where i have to take martin and jaffe to cloud temple
but i don't go there, just do my side missions .
martin and jaffe will just follow you anywhere ,pretty usefull in a fight aswell
and they never die .
 
If you want a set of really good armour and brilliant sword, go find Umbra, kill her and steal her stuff. he sword, Umbra, steals peoples souls so you can store them in soul gems, and to make life better, got to Azura's shrine and do her quest. You basically get a really cool type of soul gem that will always be in your inventory :D, bloody handy I tell you.
 
Im using a Silver Long Sword at the minute it does 7 damage and am after a bit of a bigger one-handed blade for the arena any idea where i can pick one up easily ? im level 6 now
 
do the mission in chorrol about finding someones brother ,at the end of it you'll get a sword called "honour blade of chorrol"
you're supposed to give it back but i never did and i still use it now
