Oblivion - Whats the big deal???

I'm still going to hold out for the reviews. Previews, press releases, screenshots and marketing blurb can make a game sound extremely impressive - doesn't mean its actually going to be any good :p

Tenner says its going to be an 80% game.
If it's anything like Morrowind, it will be worth more than 80% :)

I've not really played MMORPGs but I get the impression that they aren't very immersive. It seems that too many people act like someone playing a game rather than acting like an orc or a wizard or a knight, etc. With a single player RPG you know that everyone you meet will act like they are a character in a different world rather than someone sitting in front of a PC.

One thing that gets me excited about Oblivion is the physics. I just want to have a proper battle with swords clashing instead of just standing there hacking away.

this is one game im going to make my own mind up playing, and not listening to some ponsy journo telling me he dosent like it because the game dosent feel right to him. Im not even going to read a review before buying it. Im buying it solely on the the advice of this forum, as I know the people who congregate here are more knowlegeable than any game journo will ever be.

Multiplayer dosn't make a good game!

Hell some of the best games of all time are single player e.g FF7, Deus Ex (no one played it in multi), Mafia etc.

Oblivion is a gaming revolution to every person vaguely interested in RPG's.

Edit: 16 Square miles of land, 50 hours of voice dialogue and a promised 200 hours of gameplay. What more can you ask from a game!

All the best games are single player IMO (Mario64, FF7, Zelda OoT, Deus Ex, Half-Life etc..).

If anybody is wondering what the minimum specs are:

Minimum:
Windows XP
512MB System RAM
2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
DirectX 9.0 compatible driver
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard drive space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse

Recommended:
3 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card

The key with RPG's is atmosphere! The game can be less than perfect as long as it really immerses you in the world. Take EQ2, it looks nice, it's technically very good and I couldn't really point out any problems with it. However, for me anyway, it was totally devoid of any atmosphere and magic. Unfortunately, that magical atmos is not something you can just sit down and create.....I think a lot of it is down to luck!

I literally can't remember ever seeing so much hype prior to a singleplayer RPG release before. Diablo2 had a lot but that is more of a hack'n'slash action-rpg than a pure RPG. Actually I'm going to coin a phrase and brand that style of game an "Arcade-RPG" :)

I'll be checking out Oblivion at some time I expect, but probably not for a while. Heck, I still haven't bought Morrowind due to worries about performance and having enough time to commit to it.

I just blew £566 on a CPU, Motherboard, Graphics card & a PSU just for this game.

Got the collectors edition on Pre-Order, so just under £600 for a game.

Yeah, i'll play other games on my PC, but Oblivion made me upgrade, last game i bought for PC was HL2 over a year ago.

Am i mad? Maybe.

Do i think It will be worth it? Definately!.

I bought Morrowind just after it was released, i last played it on wednesday after work.

If the story, immersiveness (is that a word?) and size of the game is anywhere near that of morrowind this game is going to last me about 2 - 3 years.

I cant wait to visit the province of Cyrodil & go kick some Daedra ass in the realm of Oblivion!.

good on you! dont listen to the 360 crowd, if you want to upgrade your PC to play this game then thats your choice. I have also! (bought a some logitech z5500's -5.1 surround sound to really get into the dungeons atmospheres).

This game is gonna rock i cant wait until the postman comes. Ive bought the collectors edition the first thing im gonna do is watch the apparently well made dvd then actually play the game :)
Im going to be a nord custom class scotsman :p
I upgraded my x800xl to a x1900xtx to play this beast, also in a week or two im buying the VX922 which will make the game really shine.
