Oblivion worth it

I see the deluxe version is going cheap for today's deal on Steam.

Does it work fine on Windows 7 x64 (I don't want something that crashes all the time) and more importantly, is it worth it?

I find it horribly unstable. It's a half-decent game as long as you're willing to spend a few hours modding it.

If you have a rig that can run Skyrim though, don't even bother, just get Skyrim.

For a fiver its a superb game I have never really had any major issues with it tbh apart from a couple of crashes to desktop. If you have played Skyrim you will find it hard to play Oblivion.

The game is not unstable at all I have the 5th anniversary edition with only the official patches and played it all the way through without hassle. Skyrim may be good but that does not mean you should only play Skyrim. Skyrim as an RPG is good for sure, but oblivion is nothing like it so it can be played before or after Skyrim if you are an RPG fan. The way both games work and play are totally different. People keep thinking if you play Skyrim no other RPG will be any good..................... Total rubbish

Hell I stuck Skyrim back on my shelf and went to play Witcher 2, I will play it someday after Witcher/Neverwinter nights and all the Gothic games.

Just because you have had no problems with it doesn't mean no one else will, don't get me wrong, i love it to bits but it can be a right pain to get it to run stable and some people never get it running well(personally i only ever had minor problems with it tbh and sorted them fairly easily, but countless others have given up on it!)

To OP, yes it is definitely worth it, Skyrim is so good that a lot of people are dismissing Oblivion and forgetting how good it can be!

Yeah agreed, like any game on the PC, some will have issues some wont. Otherthing is lots of people are dismissing any RPG over Skyrim which is wrong really. Skyrim is not the best RPG in the world, its close granted. But other RPG's can offer just as much fun. We have a shed load of RPG's on the PC that will give us just as much fun.

Oblivion and Skyrim are different beasts in my opinion, yeh they are both in the Elder Scrolls series but theY are different games and in all honestly I prefer Oblivion.

Indeed, there are lots of different types of RPG's around and we are a little bit spoilt for choice really

However....

I am starting to think that it is and tbh playing it has made me realise that a few other recent RPG's just didn't cut it tbh. I was never the biggest fan of The Witcher 2 anyway, but Skyrim does make it seem very limited imo(something about that game really seems to rile me for some reason, i'm not entirely sure what it is, lol. I enjoyed it and consider it a good game, but not the great game eberyone else seems to, i often find myslef posting negative things about it without intending to:p)

PS and how Bioware could possibly defend Dragon Age 2 in lgiht of Skyrims release is beyond me:D

Oblivion is a really good game and has a really quite well made story line on it where you actually start to believe your making a difference. The expansion packs to it are also VERY good, with shimmering isles with the daedric prince sheogorath being some of the best moments I've had in any RPG to date, including skyrim.

Definitely get it whilst its cheap, even if its to learn vastly more background to skyrim through the insane amounts of references between each of the games.

God yes I agree, witcher 2 is not that great but it is good, good enough to finish anyway. Dragon Age 2 (loved the first) I think I started it and sold it on ebay lol. Best RPG I have played over the past few months is Risen, loved every single minute of that game (about 60 hours worth but I did mess about a lot). But I get the feeling people who play Skyrim now will not give these other games a chance. End of the day this does not effect me as I play games old and new but these people will lose out on good games.

Back to witcher 2, it does look pretty damn good though :)

Awesome game your missing out if you've never played Oblivion.

Dont know what all this talk about stability is all about it ran perfectly fine for me.

+1

The storylines and main quests in Elder scrolls games are always underrated i find, i know exploring and going off doing your own thing is what makes them great but Oblivion/FO3+NV/Skyrim have great main quests imo, it is easy to underestimate them, i replayed through Fallout 3 earlier on in the year and was struck by just how strong the main quest actually is

The only thing that i think is missing from Skyrim is a really big city /repeating myself

I found Oblivion very stable,I will say Skyrim is the most unstable game I've ever owned, big thread on CTD here http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1270631-crashes-during-gameplay/ (55 pages long at the moment).

Don't get me wrong I like Skyrim but it does have a lot of CTD and bug issues.

For a fiver you can't really go wrong.
