Oblivion

Well Silver is an extremely soft, ductile and malleable metal.
So it should damage easily I would have thought.
Well in reality it would be possibly the worst metal you could chose for a sword. More show than practical.
However not knowing the game I have no clue if they have used realistic properties for it.

thanks

I have looked at that table, 252 for silver longsword, surely its better than steel ?

It's slightly better than steel, what monsters are you killing? I've not played Oblivion for some time, but I remember avoiding silver weapons for some reason.

This is from the unofficial Wiki for Oblivion:

WeaponHealth degrades by (0.06 * BaseWeaponDamage) with each weapon strike. For example, a Daedric Longsword with base damage of 24 will lose (0.06 * 24) = 1.44 points per strike.

so better the sword the more degrading they are ?

cant remember the name of the mission i did recently, had to rescue the daughter of one of the mages daughters, i had to goto this village, and head down under one of the houses, they blocked like 99% of my attacks

It's great that you're playing Oblivion, it's easily one of my favourite games of all time.

In answer to your question, most silver weapons degrade very quickly. The trade-off is that they're one of three weapon types capable of damaging ghosts, wraiths etc. If you have the Shivering Isles expansion, you can acquire the Durable Silver Lonsword which has double the amount of health.

thanks

i have the Game of the Year Edition, but only installed the standard game

been playing it since the GOTY edition came out many years ago
this time im determined to finish it from the start ! (im now a level 10 battle mage , breton) im normally imperial, with a bit of magic

so should i just get the next one up asap then ?
does Silver degrade the quickest then ?

Check this guide for good early game loot:

Hmm, the honourblade i had once before (last time i played it)
i did that quest this time, im sure i did, but no blade, ill have to check my logs :D

Just picked up the Mishaxhias Cleaver
Disintegrate armour 40 on strike :D

I created a custom dagger that was capable of killing anything with just a few strikes, even on the highest difficulty:

If you do have access to the university, you can make very powerful daedric weapons. One good general setup is as follows:
  • Elemental Damage
  • Elemental Weakness
  • Weakness to Magic
Every additional hit with this weapon will be stronger against the enemy.

The following is an example of a daedric dagger that was properly enchanted with elemental damage, elemental weakness, and weakness to magic:

I just got into the Arcane University and enhanced my armour so I could carry much more, and then use feather spells that last ages to make it even higher. Then I could loot everything and just carry it to the buyer.

Check which items have a stolen symbol next to them, it could be a glitch.
